Late May/early June meant Exam season was in full swing which was worrying for 70% of students as they had mostly forgotten that University actually involved some work and it wasn't all just drinking and partying. Fortunately, I had revised extensively and so I found the exams no trouble. Chris had revised in some parts but I could tell he was much more intelligent than me. It came naturally to him where as I had to work at things.

Our argument actually brought Chris and I closer together because it had made us realise that our relationship wasn't going to be perfect all the time and falling out was normal. We were on an exam time table meaning we were usually only required to be in college in the afternoons. Chris would usually come to my place in the morning and we'd grab some food and laze around in the warm weather at the park.

It was early evening. We were both done with exams for the day so we'd been at the park for most of the afternoon. My head rested on Chris's chest, we were both lying on a blanket I'd brought with us. His hand was stroking my hair. The view was perfect, we could see the glistening lights of the big city. I was completely at peace.

"Can you believe the year is almost over?" I sighed. "It's flown by so quickly. I hope I can see you over the summer."

"Well. I actually have some good news about that." He smiled. I lifted my head off his chest slightly so I could look into his eyes. "My parents, well my whole family actually always go away in the summer. They invited me but I said I didn't really want to go...so...if it's okay with you then you can come and stay at my house for a couple of weeks. We'll be all alone."

I grinned. "Sounds perfect." I gave him quick kiss on the lips.

"Brilliant! I think we'll spend about a week at home by ourselves before you come. I'll check the dates again so we know for sure. Hopefully we won't be apart too much. I almost don't want to leave college."

"Me neither. I really don't want to go home. I hate it."

"Aw, love. Is it really that bad?"

I sighed. Now was as good a time to tell him about my father as any. "I've never really told you about what happened with my dad have I?"

"Nope. But don't feel pressured to. I get the gist." He smiled at me.

"No, I want to tell you." I sat up and faced him with my legs crossed. He did the same and held my hands in his. I smiled at him weakly. "Well. My family always lived up North, in the same town as we do now. A couple of years ago we got this amazing opportunity to come and live down South so obviously we leapt at it. I got a great education and a great house. I didn't really think my life could get much better." I took a deep breath, preparing myself for what came next. "But then...my dad got involved in a car crash. He was coming home late at night because he was working overtime, a drunk driver hit him head on. He was gone before they even got to him." Chris tried to soothe me but I felt hot tears burning my eyes. "Then the company weren't interested in our welfare, forced us out but my mother fought to keep us in there til I finished my A levels. There's no point me being at Uni really. I don't want a degree. I was always close to my dad, I've never really got on with my mother. She's depressed now, she won't get out of bed most days. She depends on drink to solve all her problems. I love Joe but it's just impossible to survive there. Sorry for ranting at you, Chris. But thanks for listening. I appreciate it."

"You know I'm always here for you, right? I'll always listen to you. I just want you to be happy." His gentle voice soothed me.

"And you make me so happy, Chris. I could've just gone and got a job but I wouldn't have been able to afford to live away from home for a few years at least, so this was the most sure fire way to escape that hell hole. Since I met you I've been even more convinced that I made the right choice. Meeting you was just destiny."

"We're made for each other, you and me. I'm incomplete when I'm without you. You're my missing piece."

We walked home hand in hand, our relationship stronger than ever. Both of us were excited about the future now. And I felt a little more confident he would be in mine.
