"What? I'm sorry, I thought I heard you say you were pregnant." Jade said calmly. I remained silent, my eyes watering now. Desperately wanting the floor to open up and swallow me, I pursed my lips and squinted my eyes, waiting for her to realize I was serious.
"Amber?" Jade asked quietly.
"Yeah?" I squeeked out.
"You're actually pregnant aren't you...you aren't joking?" The tears were gushing now and I nodded my head furiously even though I knew she couldn't see me. It was a long moment before I spoke.
"Yep..." was all I could manage to say.
"Well...what now?"
That was a great question. I paused and thought for a long moment. I'd have to tell my parents, and then after that tell Nathan. Then, I'd sit and wait for nine months as I got fatter and the word got around school.
"Can you come over tonight? I need you here when I tell mom and dad."
"Of course chickadee." I could almost hear her smile on the other end. "What are friends for? I'll head right over."
