"Hey there," Nate whispered as he came up behind me at my locker.
I closed my eyes and felt his voice in my ear and breath on my neck. It sent shivers down my spine. God, he was perfect. I wanted to call him mine.
No. I couldn't let my mind wander to those childish fantasies.
"Hey," I responded, shutting my locker gently and turning around to face him. He was much closer than I thought.
He grinned at the surprise on my face and took a step closer, forcing me to back up against the lockers. I decided I had to tell him now. It was now or never.
"Hey Nate...?" I started, mustering up as much courage as I could. I was shaking and my palms were sweating. I just hoped he couldn't tell.
"Yeah?"
"That night...as the party?" He seemed to be following so I continued. "Did you...I mean, you used a condom right?"
He nodded. "Of course! Why? What's wr-" the realization hit him like a rock. His face dropped and I'm surprised his jaw didn't.
The tears wanted to flow now, but I couldn't let them. I couldn't let him see me break. I simply nodded. The bell rang then.
"I- I have to get to class." He adjusted his backpack and walked away.
