Titus

I sat quietly at the spacious dinning table in the center room of the palace. Seven chefs came out to place trays of bread and stew down for us to eat. Cautiously, I filled my plate while listening to Zuhar and her family converse about the day's events. I hadn't seen Nakini since yesterday afternoon when I dropped her at the nurses quarters.

"How's Nakini?" I interrupted their conversation.

"She is better." her father frowned, giving me a knowing glare. Did he think I was the one to blame for her injury?

"She can walk ever so lightly but must stay off her ankle for the rest of the week" her mother informed me, hitting her husband to behave. I nodded calmly, thanking the gods it was nothing worse.

I looked down to pick at my plate but the loud banging of a struggle interrupted the silence. She limped into the room, leaning against 2 servants.

I couldn't help but stare at her beautiful stature. Even though she struggled to walk, she made the effort to dress elegantly. She had soft rouge on her plump lips as her braids were packed to the side.

How dare she tease me like this?

Her eyes trailed across the room until they landed onto mine, then, her thick eyebrows furrowed with anger. She commanded the two helpers to leave and hobbled to the middle of the table.

"Do you need help daughter?" her father suggested.

"Help? For what reason?" she asked, pretending as if her ankle was nothing less than a bruise. Her family suppressed their laughter as she staggered to the chair. "It is—- nothing more—" she grunted, using all her strength to walk, " ...more than a bruised ankle"

Of course she wouldn't admit to her own injury.
Why was was so stubborn?

I stood beside her to aide her descent but she pushed me aside and took her place pridefully. I could tell she was still upset at me for challenging her to spar. She couldn't face me as he stared down at her food. I only stared to question if she was okay.

Nakini

I made sure to violently stab each peace of meat as he stared from across the table. I was still mad at him for some reason.... a reason that would soon come to my mind.

I wish he would stop staring at me as I ate my food.
I knew I was supposed to be mad at him but his soft golden eyes were making it hard. He cleared his throat to break the silence between us. "Are you okay...wife?" he muttered beneath his breath.

I snapped my head away from my food and faced him. "I am just fine husband" I snapped and rolled my eyes. I continued to play with my food until my father broke the silence with another story about his  council.

"Mother!" I stood to address her, "Have a room made for Titus that is away from mine. The nurse said I need the full bed to rest and perch my leg. He will crush it if he sleeps with me. You always seem to take up all the space anyway." I admitted, sitting once more with pride in my eyes.

"Hmm do I?" he frowned.

"You do Titus, but of course you wouldn't know" I hinted.

"You usually beg to just rest in my arms by the end of the night? There seems to be ample space then?" he lied.

"Why you little... "

"Is there an issue?" my mother asked as she saw our whispered conversations from across the table.
