Movements passed slowly, but Y/n was still nowhere near getting out of the scrap towns. The wait was killing her, so she began to give up. All hope of leaving had vanished anyway. So then why could she not except her fate?
Y/n walked down the dirt road of her village on evening, trying to get her mind off of the internal struggle she was having. The streets were silent, for most of the scrappers had gone to their houses. Only the most idiotic scrappers would roam the town at night, which is exactly why she was out. It was dangerous, yes, but she thought she could handle herself.
Y/n was whisked out of her thoughts by a strange noise behind her. She turned, but she saw nothing besides a few specks of dust floating through the air. It had to have been the wind, but how come it had been so brief?
Confused, she turned back to walking, reaching for the diamond heart out of habit. Suddenly, her stomach dropped. It wasn't there. Panicking, she spun back around. Near the place she had heard the strange noise, she saw a slim figure leaning against a tree. She could just make out a billowing cape and two cat-like ears when he disappeared into thin air.
Finding her voice, Y/n called after him. "Wa-? Hey!"
Was that stranger the one who had stolen her necklace? It had to be. Nobody else was in sight. She clenched her jaw, wondering how he had stolen the heart without her noticing. But that didn't matter at the moment. She had to stop him.
'He could not have gone too far.' She thought to herself as she took off toward the dissipating dust cloud. 'I am going to kill him when I find him.'
The thief appeared seconds later, but in a different location. Through her rising anger, a spark of curiosity coursed through her, though she forced it down quickly. 'Anyone who steals my necklace is going to perish.' She though furiously.
"Hey you! Come back here!" Y/n growled as the stranger vanished once more.
"Give it back! The diamond is all I have!" She ran forward, but stopped at the tree. She knew she couldn't chase the thief if she wanted to catch him. She would have to find another way. Maybe if she could sneak up on h-.
"Lookin' for something?"
Y/n yelped as she swung herself around. On instinct, her fist flew out in front of her, colliding with something else.
The thief, whom she had just punched, fell to the ground. Y/n froze, fist in the air, breathing heavily.
"Geez, you've got good aim." He muttered, rubbing his jaw.
"Give me back my necklace!" She glared at the stranger, raising her arm a bit higher. The thief just laughed at her pitiful attempt to look brave.
"Why should I? Finders keepers." He stood up, dusting himself off.
She punched him again. Her newfound strength coming from the rage inside her.
"Agh-! Hey!"
"That's what you get!" Y/n yelled. "Now hand it over. You have no right to take it away from me!"
But the thief didn't seem interested in doing so. "Hm. You're strong and pretty. Well-."
"You're this close to being kicked!" Y/n touched her fingers together. Then she kicked him. "Quiznak! Okay fine! I'll shut up." He replied, holding his shin.
"Hand over the necklace, thief! It's the only thing I have left of my parents! I lost them before... I'm not losing their gift!"
The stranger said nothing for a minuet. He just stared, blinking. Y/n glared back, unable to read his expression. Now that she wasn't busy killing him, she could actually see what he looked like. He was sort of tall and had tan skin. A bandanna kept his brown hair out of his face. He did in fact have cat-like ears, as she'd noticed before, and a tail too! Strange, but the most offsetting feature was his eyes. They were cold and blue like ice. Y/n didn't like him one bit.
A flash of empathy suddenly crossed his face, then he was gone.
Y/n waited.
5 ticks
10 ticks
40 ticks
1 dobosh
Then 5
"NO!" Y/n cried onto the darkness. Nightfall had come quickly while she was chasing the thief, but she didn't notice. Grief overtook her as she fell to her knees. Her parents... the heart. It was all gone. Somehow she knew the stranger wouldn't appear again.
Y/n balled up her fist and hit the ground with more force than was necessary. Her knuckles connected with something sharp. 'Stupid rocks.' She thought as she examined her now bleeding hand.
She sighed, squeezing her eyes shut. No. She had cried too much in the past. She wouldn't start again. She had promised herself to stop being weak.
Something glinted in the moonlight, catching Y/n's eye. She gasped, as she picked up the diamond heart. It was coated in blood, barely visible, yet she knew what it was.
Y/n hugged it to her chest, relieved. Looking at the sky, she chuckled humorlessly. "You're a terrible thief."
I might leave a small author's notes after every chapter. I know no one reads them but oh well.
I wrote a five verse theme song for Coran because he deserves one.
