No further progress had been made. The Alphas were adamant not to receive help if the Enforcers were involved. It were these difficult, arrogant, thick-headed men that prevent anything from getting done quickly an efficiently. Another example of why the Enforcers don't live under an Alpha, but as equals.
Though, because they were on an Alpha's land, they had enough decency and common sense to abide to their wants. They, of course, didn't like this but they were willing to do whatever was needed to not cause any troubles. Yet again, just because they were on foreign land did not mean they didn't maintain their customs.
Although the men refused to eat for the first few days, they still sat at the dinner table out of respect. The men held their tongues, their shoulders tense as they watched the pack's way of life. It made them uncomfortable, watching the men think and do for themselves before the women were even a thought.
They wanted to be in and out without consuming or taking much of the packs resources, not wanted to be a nuisance. Though, when the Enforcers could not longer function without food, they finally began eating with the pack. With the upmost respect, they patiently waited in silence until every female filled their plates and began eating before they even thought about reaching for a utensil. Once the women began eating, they filled their plates and joined the feast, engaging in conversation every now and then. The stares or whispered comments didn't bother them at all. They will live and act as they do no matter where they are. It was their way of life.
The air was light as the chattering continued. No one felt awkward at the presence of the men and they, in turn, did not feel unwelcome or threatened. They indulged in this, thankful that their assistance was finally recognized and appreciated. As the night grew on, children were put to bed by parents and eating ceased, only a few stragglers remaining at the table.
"We haven't been able to speak for a while." Orion rubbed his face, a slight scratching noise sounded as his hand passed his chin. His eyes were worn, dark circles surrounded them with stress. " Did you make and progress?
The quiet chatter that once filled the room completely ceased at his question. Faced turned dark, a solemn expression on their faces. It was justified, their reactions. Their packs hasn't been hit yet and it was only a matter of time until it did.
"No." Arias let out a long, harsh sigh, his frustration clear. "But we will. We not stop until we do."
"I have faith in you." He clasped onto his mate's hand, sending her a smile as he rubbed her knuckles at her forlorn appearance. "We have faith in you."
The words of the Alpha hit him hard, sinking into him until his chest felt heavy and warm. His stomach clenched and his breathing felt restricted, the feeling of guilt. He didn't want to bring disappointment to someone who was depending so heavily on him, with a pure soul such as his.
So, with a new found determination, he locked himself in the office, telling the others that they deserved a break. Most offered to help but he could see the relief behind their eyes, a true nights rest for them tonight. Arias bid them goodnight, refusing their help, only to barricade his frustration in himself and the room, alone to his thoughts.
He opened the windows, allowing the cool night air to wash over his skin. He was sick of the unforgiving heat, the sheen sweat making his shirt stick to his skin. He be-rid himself of the restricting clothing, embracing the breeze and the sound of the forest.
Looking upon the moon, he basked in its gentle rays. It was times like these that they were connected to the Moon Goddess, where they could confide in her, pray for good fortune. He closed his eyes and relaxed, knowing he was safe as long as he was shrouded in her light.
"Θεά του φεγγαριού, προσεύχομαι σε σας για να επιτρέψω στους αδελφούς μου και εγώ να φέρνουμε την ειρήνη σε αυτές τις οικογένειες φέρνοντας τα παιδιά τους σπίτι. Προσεύχομαι σε σας, όμορφο φεγγάρι για να με βοηθήσει με τα προβλήματά μου. "
("Goddess of the moon, I pray for you to allow my brothers and I to bring peace to these families by bringing their children home. I pray to you, beautiful moon to help me with my problems.")
