My wish had come true, I only needed to wait until nightfall before I could sneak out of my home. I walked far away from my neighbourhood. I was confident enough in the woods and my eyes adjusted well in the dark, so I had very little to honestly be worried about.
I did not carry an umbrella, I walked through the forest in a tank top and some jean shorts. My flip flops occasionally flicked wet leaves up at my thighs, but it honestly didn't bother me. I enjoyed the way the piercing, cold rain felt on my skin and through my thick hair. I enjoyed the way the lightning lit up the sky, it painted pictures in the night.
I walked close to a river as I walked through the woods, statistically speaking, the chance of me being affected negatively by the storm was so small that I hadn't worried about it. It's always so cliche when movie characters say that everything happens so fast in a dangerous situation, and quite frankly, it's not really true.
I slowly looked up towards the sky and saw it light up with electrical energy. I saw the bolt of lightning come down at me in slow motion. I felt the energy pulse through me in slow motion, every last painstaking moment of it. I collapsed to the ground quickly after that and was overcome with unconsciousness.
When I woke it was next to a heart monitor, a spark of joy ignited in me as I realised that I was still alive. I opened my eyes but was blinded by the light in my room. I shaded them quickly before attempting to swing my legs over my bed and turn the switch off.
"Woah, woah, woah. What are you doing?" Emmett Cullen asked as he peeked in through the doorway.
"Turning the lights out, they're so bright," I whined.
"Get back in bed," he instructed and shut the lights off for me.
"Why are you here? Shouldn't you be in school?" I groaned and struggled to get back into bed.
He came over and helped me reach the height of the bed, "I found you in the woods last night," his voice was grave.
"What were you doing in the woods last night?" I asked.
"I could ask you the same question," he scolded.
"You could, but I asked you first. You're avoiding the question, you have something you're hiding," I said point-blank.
"You have no proof," he became closed off again, "I was looking for my dog."
"What kind of dog?"
"German Sheppard mix."
"What's its name?"
"Finn."
"How old?"
"4 months," his answers were all very quick.
I scowled, "All right. Your story passes. How did you find me?"
He seemed to think about the answer to that for quite some time, "I was looking for my dog and you were actually relatively close to my house. I spotted you when the sky lit up and noticed you were unconscious."
"I think I was hit by lightning," my eyes widened as I remembered last night.
"You were," his voice was low and he came close to me. His fingers brushed lightly against my skin, sending shivers through my nerves as he pushed back the sleeve of my gown to show the insane scar.
"Oh my god, that's awesome," I whispered.
"Awesome?" His voice raised slightly, "You could have died."
"But I didn't and now I have a cool scar as a part of my story," I pointed out.
"You're confusing," he tsked.
