Jace POV
It had taken us forever to finally reach the address that Clary had sent Alec. Once we finally got to it, I didn't wait for his directions.
"Izzy, Klad, and Maycen follow Jace. The rest of you will search around the perimeter." Is all I heard as I took two steps at a time working my way up the floors.
"I'll take these two floors." I heard Maycen say about a follow down. I was only on the third floor and my legs were burning, but I had to get to her. I looked up, it had to be about three to four more floors left.
"Klad, you take these two." Izzy spoke as I reached the sixth floor. I had one to go. "Jace you need backup! Wait!" I ignored her. As I kept running, the same thought clouded my mind. 'I should have been with her. I should have there when Johnathan grabbed her.'
I swung the door open. The abandoned eerie silence echoed as I swiped in and out of each room. They each had no furniture and many cobwebs. I saw a light down the hall, instead of searching the remaining rooms, I ran to the light. I almost passed it in efforts to get there quickly. I looked in and saw Clary on her knees.
"Clary" I said out of breath. She turned to me in horror.
"Jace you shouldn't be here." She said standing entering my embrace. Her warmth made my blood boil with relief. I pulled back to look at her. I dropped my sword on the ground and held her face in my hands, intensely staring into her eyes.
"What happened?" She looked at me and opened her mouth. Her eyes looked behind me and her mouth formed another word.
"Izzy." Her voice sounded upset with her name.
"Clary, where's Jackson?" I turned to look at Izzy and then back at Clary. Her eyes saddened even more and I knew what had happened, a part of it anyway.
I felt Clary standing there helpless and went to the connecting room. Her hand reached for mine, in efforts to stop me. Her hand held mine in the air and I looked back at her. Her eyes showed her desperation.
I heard Izzy step closer to Clary in order to comfort her. She eventually let go of my hand and I stepped into the room shocked to see what I saw. Jackson laid dead in the middle of a circle of ash. It was a horrid sight. His blood was smeared into the floors and walls.
His blood wrote a message. Big, bloody words everywhere. I looked around and entered deeper into the room, making sure that I would not ruin any letter. I saw phrases and soon found the starting point of the long message
"All the legends are true" I read out loud, "your daughter is the only angelic full-blooded child in existence." I paused in fear, "The most powerful weapon that has even been created." I looked up at a creaking sound to find Clary, Izzy, and Alec waiting at the door. I saw Alec and Izzy holding onto every word I spoke, while Clary's body trembled. "She is the most powerful being" I stepped to the side to see another quote, "Your pain is the start of the prophesy." I looked up at Clary, questionably, but her eyes avoided mine. She knew what it meant. I turned my eyes to the walls, "You will see. You have something far more powerful than one can imagine, but she'll will be taken from you. In efforts to prevent the inevitable your love with be crushed in front of your eyes. This time he will be gone for good. The angelic-blooded child will be taken and never seen again. This is your fate." I felt a chill go down my back.
Each sentence was vague but presented a point. I looked back at Clary when I finished. I saw tears pooling in her eyes, and I felt helpless as I made my way towards her. Alec and Izzy had left, and it was just us.
I had no words, nothing. I was trying to piece it all in my mind, but it was all too much to even understand. 'This had to be another game of Johnathan's, it had to be.' I said to myself. I saw Clary's face, but I knew no words would help her. My anger stayed beneath my skin so I could comfort her.
Her body fell into mine. I was the only one holding us up, now. I held her with everything in me. I began to hear her soft sobs into my shoulder.
"This isn't true. I would have read about it." I said trying to convince us both. She didn't believe me, she just continued to sob. A part of me believed this Johnathan's dumb game while a small part deep down feared it was true. "Do you know what it meant by..." I started to ask stepping away. She eyes, stained with tears looked at me with guilt. She opened her mouth to speak, knowing what my question was.
"AAHHHH!!!" She screamed in pain. Her body went numb and I barely caught her. I sunk to the ground holding her tense body in my arms. She closed her eyes tightly and tears streamed out. I yelled for anyone's help. Her screams of pain continued and all I could do was hold her, terrified. Each scream stuck my heart with pain. "JACE!!!!" She cried.
