Chapter 15: The Choice

Her eyes shift down to his hands that loosely have hers and tears spark in her eyes and she can't stop them. He brought her here to help her escape? To kill herself if she wished? He thought of her before him. Looking at Norman Emily realizes how selfless he is. She doesn't see this as him giving up on her or the fight. This is him being supportive, even though it's obviously hurting him. Norman: the most caring person in the world:selfless and caring. The moon shifts ever so slightly on the inrolling waves upon the ocean. Meeting his eyes again, she takes her hands from his and gets off the wall, walking toward the high deck that over looks the island.

Looking down, it's high above a steep hill. In the water, she notices the dolphins playing and nighting-gales beginning to sing in the tree tops across the other side of the island. Tears burning her more, she simply drops to knees on the cool deck, that seems to bring her back to her heart. Back to the world she hasn't been able to find in such a long time. Her hands rest beside her on the deck as she drops onto her shines and bows her head to the moon.

Behind her, she hears Norman slowly walk toward her. His breath is mute and so is his bare feet. The only sound that is produced is the slightly scraping of his dress pants on the deck. Reaching her side, he kneels beside her and then drops onto his shines also. Without turning to her or looking at her, his right hand reaches down and takes her left in his. She looks down and then, without even feeling her heart, leans into him, eventually he pulls her to his lap. This was home. This was safety. He kisses her temple and she lays her head down on his chest. Picking her up from his lap, he takes her back into the room and lays her on the bed. Laying beside her, Norman never lets go of her, her head still on his chest and his arms still tight around her small waist.

In the morning, they are still very much entangled. Emily wakes up first and looks at him, sleeping soundly and sweetly. Slowly and gently, she pulls away from him and leaves. Grabbing her shoes, she looks at him before closing the door behind her. Walking out of the house, she finds a trail that is heading down to the private ocean. When she gets there, she sits in the sand and just begins to cry. Looking in the sand a few inches away, is a small baby sea turtle crawling toward the ocean. Emily knows that not many make it to the water cause of birds. Her mind goes back to the time her and Norman were filming the episode "Still" and her and Norman found a turtle shell and she told him it was cute. At their season party, he gave it to her as a wrap present. In it, he painted "Emily + Norman 2014". She still has it and she still loves it. Watching this turtle, she sees it as herself, struggling against pain, to try and find home or saftey.

Why is she struggling though? She found home and safety in Norman. And happiness, joy, love, everything she needs and wants. So why is she persistent in wanting to end it? As a bird is starting to swoop down at the turtle, Emily begins to cry as it looks like the bird will surely capture the turtle, but by some miracle, the turtle just makes it into the water and the bird gives up the hunt.

"I can make it home. I want to live. I will." Hastily getting up and turning to prepare to run back up the trail, she stops in her tracks when she finds Norman standing with a sad look on his face and tears in his eyes, gazing at her. Her blank face turns into a smile and Norman doesn't know what to do. Dropping her shoes, she hauls ass across the beach and before Norman can prepare for anything, she barrels into him, knocking him on the sand while wrapping herself around him. On top of him in the sand, Emily just kisses him and nuzzles her face into his neck. Utterly confused, Norman wraps his arms around her.

"Emmy?" She looks up at him and wipes his tears away.

"I'm sorry Norman. I won't ever hurt myself again or put you through this. I love you and I never want to hurt you again. I'm sorry." She keeps kissing him and he finally sits up with her in his lap. Sitting facing him, her legs behind him and arms around her neck, she kisses his lips again and again. "I love you and I was stupid for doing all this. For you to bring me here for my choice, that was the most selfless thing anyone has ever done for me. I love you Norman so much"

"Emily, does this mean, I don't have to worry about the bad things any more? Cause I don't think I could go through this again and have this pain in my heart again." HIs voice shakes and shatters a bit, but Em reassures him with a hug and kiss.

"Never again. I promise. I never want you hurt again."

"I'm glad...what changed?" He hesitantly asks.

"It's lame, but it took me watching a baby sea turtle struggle to the ocean to realize that some things don't have a choice, but they never give up."

"That's deep, Emmy girl." They both laugh and kiss each other.

"Then of course I thought of the turtle shell you gave me and I realized I you were the turtle. You didn't have a choice but you were never giving up on me. Thank you. You mean so much to me, Norman."

"Princess, your metabolic symbols are what I would've truly missed. Haha, please promise me that you truly feel this way and that I'm not forcing you." He looks down and feels broken again.

"Norman Reedus, I promise I want to live the rest of my God given life with you."

"Good. Now, let's take after the turtle." He says as he gets up with her in his arms. She looks at him as he starts walking. "And say yes to life."

Running at full blast Emily screams as he pushes forward into the cool ocean water. He takes her all the way out of the inlet and they just tred water and float with the waves. Looking at him, Emily feels life and happiness come back to him. They find their way to small cove, where they undress and let temptation over throw everything. Laying her down on the warm sand in the shade, Norman pulls off his clothes and they begin their ritual of sweet love making sex on the beach. It's been a while since they've done it and this time, in this place, and still intact they feel more connected than any other time they've had sex.

Oh the power of a sea turtle.
