Chapter 36: Happy vs. Angry

It took only a few days for Beth to get better and be able to go home. Sitting on the lap of her mother, 4 mounth old Beth is being bounced up and down, making her happy as her mother sings through anew song she has been working on. Emily hasn't stopped working since Beth was born, in fact her creative juices have been over flowing that sometimes she misses the perfect line cause another passes her lips before she can write anything down.  Norman has been working on a new movie through Sinister Studios, a new high tech movie company that is just kicking off its first movie with the help of Norman.

She misses him through the day cause she wishes he were here to play with thier happy baby girl, who's still as tiny as a tea cup, but is slowly growing every day. Mingus has been pulling double duty with school and being a big brother. Emily's impressed with his caring and tender nature toward the small child. Coming downstairs, Mingus seems a little happier today than the past few days. Em can't put her finger on it, but he was in a slump of self angered depression for a few weeks, which worried her deeply, but today he seems as if nothing's wrong.

"Hey mom. Hi BK!!" Mingus kisses the little girls cheeks and she reaches for him as he sits back.

"Hi! You look very chipper today." She hates to, but she hands the tiny girl over to Mingus, who gently bounces her and blows raspberries on her stomach, making her gurgle and coo.

"I guess so..." He frowns and she becomes sadder at his poor posture.

"Need ta talk? I'll make ya a treat?" Getting up, she starts heading to the kitchen and he smiles, while following with Beth in his arms. Sitting at the table, Mingus lays down Beth's baby mat and lays her on it, playing with her tiny feet. Emily goes to the refrigerator and begins making banana blueberry smoothies for them, while also making up a bottle of breast milk for Beth. "What's up buttercup?"

"Nothing..." He gives her a fake smile and she continues cutting up up the bananas.

"Mingus, yer a good actor, like yer father...but I know when I see onset depression kicking in." SHe sweetly says and her becomes defensive. Looking at him, he's been wearing alot of long sleeves lately and she fears he's become like she had.

"I'm not depressed. Jus leave me alone." He goes to get up and accidently drops Beth's bum hard against the table and she begins to cry. "Shhh, I'm sorry Beth. I'm sorry. Shh...."

He picks the baby up and rocks her in his arms and looks a Em expecting her to flip out over the tender baby, but she doesn't. She does continues cutting the fruit and watches him sadly.

"It was an accident..." He says sorrowfully.

"I know. Now you wanna sit back down and talk to me like an adult." She says sternly, but full of love. Smiling, she points the knife to the chair and he sits down with Beth in his arms, finally getting the baby to calm down and smile again. "She's such a happy baby."

"Yeah..."

"So what's going on?" She starts measuring the liquids out into the blender and looks at him. She begins blending and then tastes her concoction, blends again, and then unplugs the blender and pours the drinks into two glasses and brings the bottle of milk over.

"Jus been sad lately..." He says and takes a sip of his drink, smiling at the sweet taste. Emily takes a sip of hers and then starts feeding Beth. Mingus watches her closely and is always amazed at how natural she is with Beth.

"I know. I see that, buddy. What's making you sad? Is it yer Dad and I?"

"Na...no."

"Beth? Is second child syndrome kicking in? Cause I remember my sister had it when I was born, and then I had it with Katie and ya know, it's normal." Smiling at him, the baby makes a yummy sound and she giggles at her. "I could start feeding you like a baby and tuck you in at night. That's a thing ya know."
