Chapter 19: Meeting Mrs. Reedus

Sitting in the car, Norman has run inside his mothers house to talk to the nurse. He wants to see if his mom is well enough to see Emily today. She's nervous about meeting her. Emily doesn't know if she'll be liked or if Mrs. Reedus will hate her. Then again any man who brings another woman home to his mother is gonna have attachment issues.

Running back out to the car, Norman opens Emily's door with a smile and helps her out. When they get to the door, Emily stops him on the porch. Inside, is mother can see and hear what's going on, a small smile comes to her face.

"What's wrong?"

"What if she doesn't like me?" She seems small right now. Scared of her own shadow almost, Mrs. Reedus finds this cute.

"She's gonna love you."

"Norman.... What if she doesn't? I couldn't ask you to marry me then. Not without her consent." Norman brushes her hair and his mother just looks at her nurse and smiles wide, almost tearing up at the sentiment.

"Emmy, if by some terrible and inhuman reason she doesn't like you...then I will still love you and take you as mine." He kisses her forehead and opens the door. Mrs. Reedus wants to play this aloof and or like a pain. "Mom, how you feeling?"

He comes in, leaving Emily by the door momentarily and kisses his mother on the cheek and gives her a hug. She's kind of frail looking and Emily feels like she might accidentally give this woman a heart attack, if she doesn't like her.

"I'm fine, Norman, don't jus leave her by the cold door, bring her in so I can be properly introduced." She folds her hands on her lap and has a very Betty White kind of manor to her.

"Of course Mom. That's my bad." He goes to Emily and wraps a arm around her waste cause she feels unstable. "Emily, this is my mother, Marianne. Mom, this is my fiancé, Emily."

"It's really nice to meet you Mrs. Reedus." Emily sticks her hand out and Marianne pulls her closer, taking Emily by surprise.

"Let me get a good look at ya." Sitting in her wheel chair, she looks Emily up and down. "Bout 92 sopping wet, I take it."

Emily blushes and Norman just rubs the back of his neck.

"Turn for me, Darlin'." Emily slowly turns and Marianne makes Mmm and ahh sounds as she does. "You a natural blonde?"

"Yes Ma'am." Emily sweetly and nervously says.

"So's Norman. Over the years it turned brunette, then he's dying it all the time for that show...only one who brings the blonde spectra any more is my Mingy. Where is my grandson anyway?"

"He had to go to New York with Helena this week."

"Ah. Busy boy he is. So Emily. That's a beautiful name. You play...uhm...you play..."

"Beth, mom. She's Beth Greene." He winks at Emily and she just smiles.

"Ah, yes the lil blonde girl. The one that is after Daryl. Carol, she's been busy with you too. Is she the better choice? Melissa's very pretty." Emily tries not to frown. It's evident his mom loves Carol more than Beth. Figures he's marrying Beth herself, but his mother's a Caryler.

"She is pretty mom, and she's doing good..."

"Now, you also sing, Norman says." His mother looks up at Em, who at this point is looking around the room at all the pictures.

"Oh, yes. I have two EPs out right now. Working on a third. You have a very lovely home."

"Thank you. Will you sing us a song, dear?"
