"Boys can we like... not do this??" I asked, praying they would decide not to.

"Annabeth, you know I don't." Percy sighed to me, grabbing a shield and pulling out Riptide—his pen that Chiron had given him that turns into a sword, passed down from his father.

"I know, Percy—just—be careful?" I hopefully asked, my eyes wide.

"Of course." He smiled at me.

Before I could lose any of my confidence, I gave him a small peck on the cheek, "For good luck." I smiled and ran off, his ears grew red of embarrassment and he smiled.

Luke didn't see what I had done, for he was in such rage grabbing his supplies that he didn't even notice me... so who do you think I'm rooting for in this?

Once they both gathered their single sword and shield, each having a set of chest armor, they got ready, six paces from each other.

Why did they have to do this? Why was Luke's resort always fighting? Oh yeah, because he's the best dueler in camp, that's why. He knows it's an easy win for him, but maybe, just maybe Percy can pull through and win, he was starting to get really good at dueling, thanks to Clarisse... never thought I'd say that.

"Are you sure this is the only way to 'settle things like men'?" I mocked frantically.

"Annabeth, please," Luke sighed, "this will show us who are winners," He smiled proudly to himself, "and who are losers." He growled at Percy, "winners only deserve the best." He looked at me sternly.

I was considered 'the best' here? Now that's some praise I could get used to... but was it worth fighting?

"Rules are..." He continued, "you fight till one surrenders." He looked at Percy with an evil eye, "No killing, obviously, none of us are trying to go to jail, but, causing harm, now that's fair game." He smirked.

Hate had turned his blue eyes to cold dark ashes fixed on hurting the boy I really loved, Percy. Did I just say love? No way, I mean like-I mean... shit.

"Ready, Jackson?" Luke snapped, pulling me out of my transversal thoughts.

"Depends, are you done crying scared yet?" He smirked. It probably wasn't the best thing for him to say at this moment, I could tell in his face that he noticed that, but he took pride in what he had commented.

Luke was so mad by his comment, he ran straight for him, not even on their "three, two, one" mark they were supposed to do.

"Percy!" I yelled, but he knew exactly what was happening though, yet, he continued to just stand there, still, till Luke swung at him, then he blocked it using his own sword.

They would swing back and fourth at one another, one person maybe grazing the other by a tad and giving them a cut that would start to bleed out.

I only prayed Percy could swiftly shift to the water, knowing he can get energized from it.

Luke swung his sword across Percy's arm, causing a deep cut. Percy dropped his sword for a second but picked it right back up, but he was on the ground. Luke tried to swing his sword again, but Percy dodged it with a roll, towards the water. Percy quickly fell in and was instantly filled with power to continue on for days while Luke was growing tired. Their fight continued, at some points it almost felt like Luke was going to win and Percy was suffering unbearably, but then you could see the tables turn where Luke was at fault.

Two of the best swordsmen at the camp were fighting over me, just some book-loving child of Athena... but was Percy actually fighting for me? Or was he fighting for his reputation? Or fighting just for my friendship when Luke was basically fighting for my hand?

Percy swiftly swung and caused a cut in Luke's arm, he winced because he didn't like to actually hurt anyone, but he had to, for Luke would hurt him more and Luke wouldn't have dropped his weapon, leaving Percy an easy win.

Luke rolled to his knees, dropping his sword and grabbing onto his forearm. He reached for his sword to knock Percy to the ground as well, but could not reach it for Percy kicked it backwards and held Riptide up to his chin, which Luke stood with his eyes wide, fixed on the blade.

"It's over, Luke." He breathed, tired and overwhelmed.

Luke breathed heavily, not replying, until he got out, "be good to her, Jackson, take care of her for me..."

"I will—"

"—Swear on the River Styx that you'll protect her—"

"Forever." He looked me then back at Luke, "I swear on the River Styx."

"Good... good..." Luke looked down, he had just been beat, for the first time ever.

Percy gave him a hand up, which Luke gladly took. With one quickly look at one another, Luke made his way to the infirmary and Percy ran to me, grabbing me into a tight hug, "oh, Wise Girl—Annabeth... please don't make me fight with your crazy ex-boyfriends ever again..." he laughed, holding me tightly.

"I promise, Seaweed Brain, you won't have to." I held tightly on him, then smiled.

a fight against the two puts one away in his cage...

Luke was put away in his cage...

Percy saw my hard look of thought on my face and asked, "Everything alright, Wise Girl?"

"Yeah, just fine." I smiled at him, he bought it easily.

I realized I had never told Percy about the prophecy I had received days before he got to camp. It was about him, but maybe it was one I could tell him this later, he didn't have to know now, or ever honestly, but maybe more things would clear up and I could tell him.

We made our way back to our usual spot on the beach where our stuff still stood untouched. I was surprised the Stoll Brothers hadn't found it and searched for money or anything they could take. We sat back down and looked towards the yelling waves, maybe it was his father yelling: "nice job kicking that kid's ass, son." But we could only hope.

After Percy had taken off his chest armor, he let me lay back down on his chest as usual. We smiled at each other watching the waves as I thought about the boy who held me in his arms, the boy who fought for me.
