This is also a beneficial way to go about getting inspired, and inspiration definitely leads to defeating writer's block.
When my focus was on a murder mystery that I was writing, I was reading books in the paranormal field. It was a big help in terms of inspiration, and obtaining new ideas.
Don't steal the author's ideas of course. I mean this in a way to let them help you expand your way of thinking.
