Don't get me wrong, some words can be a bit difficult to not overuse.
Such as he & she for instance.
I'm referring more to words such as:
Sure
Always
Absolutely
Pretty
So
Therefore
Next
Real
Really
Fortunately
Unfortunately
Etc....
When I wrote my first novel, I came to realize that I had used these a lot. 85% of them being sentence starters at that. It opened my eyes, and made me realize how annoying it is, to constantly see them.
Example:
Bruce got real frustrated at his neighbor, always hammering whatever it was at three in the morning. Unfortunately, Bruce hadn't been capable of buying any ear plugs yet, so he was stuck with the noise. He was absolutely sure his neighbor was partially insane or enjoyed being a pain in the butt.
Do you get the gist of it? Imagine seeing those words throughout a whole novel.
