Chapter 5: He's dead..?

After the news report finished, Sarah made a deal to drive Chief home. "I knew  Li'l Petey was watching that.. I could feel something happen to me as I said 'Petey the cat'... I knew he was gonna cry.. and I know he probably is right now.." Sarah explained, as she and Chief drove off. "We have to find him. He can't be dead. He can't be.." Chief trailed off. He was gonna say something, but then decided not too.

On the way to Chief's house, they past Petey's house and saw the door was open. "Wait!! They could be there!" Chief ordered, as Sarah slammed her foot on the brake, making the car have a screechy stop.

Chief got out, then Sarah, and they went inside. Indeed Chief was right: they heard Li'l Petey's sobs and Dog Man's comfort quotes. They both walked in "Oh! Li'l Petey! Are you ok..?" Sarah asked, whilst picking the kitten up and hugging him.

"Yeah.. but Papa isn't!!" He wailed, then he started crying again. "Shh.. I'm sure he's ok.." Sarah comforted. "Guys, you really shouldn't keep the door open— like really—" Chief advised, whilst he went to shut the door.

"I was in a rush to see the news and I didn't have enough courage to say it to Li'l Petey.. so.." Dog Man explained. Sarah sat down next to him. "I know.. I..I understand..." She sighed.

Whilst Chief was locking the door, a letter came in. "Oh hello! What's this then?" He opened it. It said:

Dear Dog Man and Co,

You wanna know where Petey went? Well, well, well. Are you sure you want to know? If you do, then read on:

He's dead. I killed him. He died. He isn't coming back.

Chief stopped on 'He isn't coming back.'. He couldn't read any further.

Petey's dead.

In reality, he isn't. He was in the cargo box, just waking up. "Hello?" Petey asked. He grunted whilst trying to get himself out this cage. "What did I ever do wrong? Why am I here?" He questioned himself. Darwin and Piggy (?) came along, and were looking at the box. "If you tell him I am the reason, then I will malfunction. So be careful.." Piggy warned. If he didn't do as told, then well, Piggy would just have to hurt him in a way. Like biting his ear or.. something.

"I'm kidnapping you."
"Why?"
"Because I have too."
"Wh..who's forcing you?"
"My.. my.."
"Your what?"

Brain. Is what he wanted to say; he couldn't, though. He just had to say it was for his own good. "Nobody! It's for your own good!" Darwin lied. Petey hugged his knees, and looked around. "Why? What's gonna happen to me?" He asked. Darwin thought for a minute. "Say that the FLEAS are after him.." Piggy ordered. He knew that's a reason that Petey would listen too. "The FLEAS are after you. I have to hide you, quick," Darwin lied. Well, he half lied. The FLEAS were after him: the thing is they had gotten him. With Darwin's help. "O..oh.."

Meanwhile, Chief walked into the living room, with two tears rolling down his cheeks. "W..what's wrong?" Sarah asked, as she stood up from the sofa. "This. This is wrong," Chief handed her the letter then sat down next to Dog Man, who hugged him. Sarah opened the letter, and read the first part. "Oh.. 'Dear Dog Man and Co?" She asked. Chief nodded "read it out loud, if you want," He advised. Dog Man loosened his hug (?) and leaned towards Sarah in curiosity. "Go ahead!" He demanded.

She read through the letter in her mind, her eyes following the words. "It's telling us where Petey is!" She exciting told everyone. Dog Man and Li'l Petey made a wide smile. "Then why is Chief cry-"
"Because of what happened to him," Chief interrupted. Dog Man patted him on the head.

Sarah read the next part in her mind, yet again, and put her free hand to her mouth. Her eyes got all watery. "Oh.. no.." She muttered. "What? What is it?" Li'l Petey curiously asked.
"I'll read it out loud.."

"Dear Dog Man and Co,

You wanna know where Petey went? Well, well well. Are you su..sure you want to kn..know? If you d..do then read o..on..."

Sarah paused. "Dog Man, read it. I really can't continue," She explained, handing the sheet to Dog Man. "Oh..kay?"

"If you do then read on.. He's d- WHAT??"
"What is it, Dog Man? Is Papa ok?"
Dog Man kneeled onto the ground, several tears falling down his cheeks. "No.. no.."
