Chapter 8

Wearing my new bikini, I walk outside to see Cameron, Matt, and Nash waiting for me. They lead the way, and it;s still awkward between Matt & I. Do I have feelings for him? I'm not sure anymore. Matt and Nash take the lead, as Cameron and I fall behind. He walks at the same pace as I do. "Are you okay?" he asks me, concerned. I nod, not really wanting to talk. He puts his hand on my shoulder, "Look, I know it's awkward between you and Matt, but that doesn't mean you have to be awkward around me," I stare up at him, not sure if I should be offended. I push his hand off my shoulder, and he just rolls his eyes. "Stop," I glare at him. "What?" he laughs, and sees an opportunity to make me laugh. He gently pushes me to the side. I laugh a little and push him back. "See, I'm fine," I say. We all approach the beach. It's extremely busy today. I enter the crowd of people, and Cameron grabs my hand so we don't get separated. In the crowd I see a familiar face. That gentle smile, those gorgeous brown eyes, the luscious hair, it;s Jack. "JACK!" I yell. He doesn't hear me, and he and someone else wade through the crowd. "Cameron, follow me!" I pull his hand, and he looks confused. "Nash and Matt are going the other way!" he says, pulling me back. "Come on, Cam! I just want you to meet someone," I say pulling him, and he finally goes along with it. Jack is holding hands with some girl, maybe they're just friends. I stand behind them, and they kiss, and he puts his arm around her. I stand still, letting go of Cameron's hand. "JACK," I say loudly, full of a voice I didn't even know I had. He turns around, and the girl looks confused."You know her?" she asks him, a flare of worry in her eyes. Jack's eyes are full of shock, and apology, but he says, "No. I don't know her," and turns around to walk the other way.

I feel so heartbroken, worthless. I collapse onto the ground, my hands in my face. I bawl my eyes out, and Cameron is by my side. "Who was that guy? Are you with him?" Cameron asks me, trying not to get me angry. "I was," I barely make out the words, and I cry even harder. "Come here," he says opening his arms for a hug. I need some comforting right about now, so I fall into his arms, and hug him tightly. He holds me tightly, and I have my chin resting on his shoulder. We stay there for a minute, and I finally stop crying. I wipe my tears away and he helps me up. "Alright, do you want me to take you home?" he asks me. "No," I shake my head, "I still want to hang out, " He has no expression on his face, and he just nods. He leads me to the other side of the crowd to where Matt, Nash, and 4 other people were sitting. "Who are they?" I ask Cameron as I take a seat next to Nash and Cameron. "The one with the bandana is Taylor, the one with the dark hair is Carter, the tall one is Shawn," he says. I look over to Shawn, and there he was. The boy whom I had dreamed of last night, and I've never seen before in my life. "Pleasure to meet you," Shawn smiles at me. This is so awkward, I mean, I never thought I'd actually know who this boy is. He looks up at me, with his brown eyes that I remember so clearly, "Chloe, right?"
