Maybe Humans Aren't Bad

Night had fell and I was still alone. I had no place to go, except if I risked going out where the humans were. What choice did I really have? I layed my head down and looked towards my violin. Perhaps I could make some currency with some music. I would do the same at my village and get shells for pay.

The idea stuck with me all night. Before I knew it, the morning light shined through the leaves of the trees. I sat up, stretched, and yawned. "Well today is-" I got interrupted by someone crying near my little camp I had.

I looked around, but couldn't see anyone. It got louder and louder, until a little girl, about the age of 3, had fell over a small branch. Startled, I backed away and quickly hid my ears behind my long and wavy sea greenish-blue hair.

The girl had short strawberry blonde hair, almost a pixie cut style. Shaking, I picked up a stick, like it was going to protect me much. "W-who are you!? What's your name?!" I fired out questions.

The girl sat up. While still crying, she answered, "K-katie. My name is Katie." I lowered the stick that I held. "Why are you so sad?" I asked. "My family is gone... my home is burnt down..." she frowned and looked like she was going to cry again, but no tears showed.

I was hesitant to ask, even though knowing she was human, I couldn't let her suffer out here alone. "What if we be a family, just me and you?"

"You mean it?" I nodded with a loving smile on my face. She ran over and hugged me tight. Before she got to comfy in the hug we shared, I interrupted her feeling of safety. "Before we camp out here, I assume it will be awhile before we get a human shelter. We'll need some currency before anything."
