Let's not be under any pretences here, the stories collected in Fast-Tracked and Other Stories have all been written to meet contest deadlines and specific word count targets. This means that, if scrutinised from a certain angle, the illusion will dissolve and the cracks and mistakes that creep in when the clock is ticking down will become all too apparent, perhaps even overbearing. Every story here (winning entries included) could benefit from a redraft and an extra lick of polish. I know it, I am not denying it, and I just want to make sure you are aware of it it too before you scroll on.

But you're here because you like some flash fiction, eh? That's good, yes indeed, because it means the Wattpad algorithm has delivered you to the right place. Each chapter here contains a story that can be consumed in a single sitting, and if you catch them on one of their better days when they are firing on all cylinders, you will be whisked off on a wild ride that'll leave you feeling a little different by the time you reach your destination at the bottom of each page.

So you're gonna hang around? Good! Here comes the coaster now, back with the last batch of thrill-seekers. Look at the somber expressions on their faces! As soon as they clear the platform you can hop in, but hold your horses, they don't look too steady on their feet, the poor wee souls. Not much chat out of them, is there? Okay that's the last of them, you're clear to board. Jump in and fasten your seatbelt, but don't worry about it too much--when I pull this leaver and the g's kick in, you won't be going anywhere.
