That day, Shiganshina fell along with Wall Maria. Nothing was heard about the other three districts. All the survivors were evacuated inside of Wall Rose but this had a major drawback. We were short on food rations, so we were sent out to attempt to raise food but the cold weather never let up. In conclusion, our efforts were fruitless. A year after that, any refugees old enough to serve in the military were sent out to reclaim Wall Maria... but the truth is, they just wanted to get rid of people so there was enough food to go around. They sent 250,000 and not even 200 returned. They were all sent to their deaths.

After that day, I managed to find Lea and Leon. Only them. They didn't have to tell me their aunt and uncle didn't make it and vice versa, I didn't need to explain what happened to my dad. So here we are, two years later after toiling in whatever work we could find to earn money for ourselves and for the time to come where we could all enlist. Standing in the 104th Training Corps following through with what we told each other. Except I had another goal now.

"Straighten those spines, pissheads! The 104th Cadet Corp Boot Camp starts now!" A bald man with a short beard bellowed as he walked up to the large group of trainees standing at attention with our hands behind our backs. We were scattered around randomly. I stood in between a tall guy with sandy brown hair with an undercut and brown eyes and a girl slightly taller than me with blonde hair, narrow blue eyes and an equally narrow nose. "Allow me to introduce myself, I'm Commandant Keith Sadies and you will grow to hate me! Training is gonna be a white knuckle ride through hell! If I've done my job right, you'll be waking up in a cold sweat from nightmares of this place every night for the rest of your miserable lives!" I could see Leon on the other side of the blonde chick, looking as stoic as ever. He had grown exceptionally tall for his age. "Right now you're nothing, livestock! But over the next three soul-crushing years, you'll learn to take down your own Goliath. Remember this moment when you come face to face with him cause here's where you ask yourself: "Am I a fighter or am I feed? Am I gonna be ground up to pulp and human grits between boulder sized mullers or am I gonna be the one to bite?"."

I have to fight. That's how it's always been. If I don't, no one will. I glanced around quickly with only my eyes. The guy next to me had this smug smirk on his face while the blonde seemed like she was dead inside. The guy on the other side of the smirking guy seemed pretty normal and rather innocent. I tried searching in front of me for Lea standing in any of those rows but I couldn't see her.

"You, moptop!" The Commandant made me flinch slightly at his booming voice.

"Sir!" Another blond kid with long hair saluted.

"What do they call you, maggot?"

"Armin Arlert from Shiganshina, sir!" This piqued my interest. So he was there that day too.

"Wow, seriously? Why would your parents curse you with such a dumb name?" I blinked at that. What?

"It was my grandfather, sir!"

The Commandant leaned towards the boy's face. "Cadet Arlert, why is a runt like you here?"

"To help humanity overcome the titans, sir!" The boy, Armin, answered loudly but nervously judging by how he shut his eyes and his voice slightly wavering.

"That is delightful to hear! You're gonna be a great light snack for em. Row Three, about face, runt!" With that said, the Commandant grabbed Armin's head and spun him 180 degrees around while the rest of the row followed. Commandant Keith walked up to another blond guy, taller than Armin with shorter hair and sideburns. "What do you call yourself?"

The guy saluted. "Sir, my name is Thomas Wagner. I'm from the Trost District!"

"I can't hear you!"

"I'm from Trost, sir!"
