Why didn't German write in his diary for 2 months? Why didn't he tell me he has a diary?
All these questions and more were running through my mind as I sat at the table beside German. He was talking but could tell my mind was elsewhere.
"Angie?"
"Uh huh."
I turned so I was facing German.
"What's on your mind?"
"The usual, Studio work, the kids." I replied not wanting to tell him what I was actually thinking.
“Angie, I know something is wrong, just tell me.”
“It’s just, um, I am just nervous to meet the new teacher who will be taking half my shift!”
I knew it was wrong to lie to him about reading his diary, but although he didn’t seem convinced, he went along with it anyway.
“Well I better get going to the studio.” I quickly said to get out of the awkward situation.
Before allowing German any time to reply, I quickly picked up my bag and walked out of the door. As I walked down the path, my mind was racing with thoughts as to why German kept his diary from me and why he didn’t write in it for two months. What if he was cheating on me and was trying to hide it? More and more questions were flying through my mind as I walked to the Studio.
I was so lost in my thoughts, that I didn’t notice Violetta walking towards me.
“Angie!”
As soon as I heard her voice, I stopped thinking about German.
“Vilu!”
Even though she is an adult now, she still reminds me of that young girl who tied a scarf round her head in one of our first lessons together.
“So, how are things going with Leon?”
“So good, I just love him so much! Did you know it is our anniversary this Wednesday? I can’t believe we have been together for 15 years! Can you?”
She continued to speak very quickly and I couldn’t help but smile! She reminds me so much of Maria. The way she talks, sings, walks, her smile, and just everything about her!
“And how are things going with Dad?”
I knew she would ask this, but I didn’t want to tell her.
“Good, we’re fine.”
But she isn’t as easy to fool as her father, and immediately knew I was not being truthful.
“Angie, you can tell me the truth”
“Fine,” I sighed, “So the other night, your dad was in the shower and I found a diary under his pillow. As I was looking through, I saw he had written about me a lot, then there was about a two month gap. I just don’t know why he wouldn’t write in his diary!”
She thought for a moment.
“Maybe he didn’t want to remember what happened then!”
I wasn’t sure what she meant, what would be so bad that German wouldn’t want to remember? Vilu said it as if it was obvious that there was something he would want to forget.
“What do you mean?”
“Angie, don’t you remember, you were in a coma for 2 months, Dad didn’t write in his diary then, because he loves you! He didn’t want to remember almost losing you!”
I began to think about what she said, could that be the reason?
“I have to go!” She said as she looked at her watch. “I agreed to meet Fran for a coffee! Bye!”
As she walked off, it suddenly dawned on me that she was right.
