A moment of pretending didn't hurt.

You danced a long tune with the handsome brunette; eventually it would be time for you to let go and move on with the eternal night that didn't allow you a satisfying ending. You would have to see him with others: he'd share a tender expression and heartfelt words unique to their personality, send them off with a charming smile, and continue on walking the floor with confidence in his stride. Asking him if he was tired of keeping his facade was foolish.

'Are you happy,' was a pointless endeavor, yet you sought answers that bothered your peaceful sleep. Each night you'd dance that stupid dance with him, yet no end was in sight.

Pretending was getting pretty fucking tiring.

"Hey, do you actually love me?" Amidst the onlookers with piqued curiosity and hungry reporters, you spoke your words. You weren't dancing in a circle at the moment, but questions regarding your inquiry began to drift and waltz through the eyes of those who surrounded the famous Ushijima Wakatoshi. He didn't hesitate to leave those dazzling lights, the whispers that further increased your anxiety, and the expressions of irritation pointed toward your direction. He thrust you in an area of comfort while giving you the most confused expression he could muster.

"What do you mean? You're asking that now?" You understood and saw that wavering look of confidence he held earlier. His final waltz across the ballroom would be painful this time around, but you still sought answers only Ushijima could give.

"Time doesn't mean anything." You were on the sidelines of the ballroom with your arms crossed at your chest watching the appointed prince drift further from your vision.

"How long has it been?" You watch him teeter close to your proximity, playing with your muddled feelings and messy thoughts that were entirely focused on his tone.

"A long time, but does that matter to you?" That idiot prince looked at you expecting you to understand his duty to the people, completely ignoring the fact you were a greedy person. Human beings that are deemed to be shared was annoying, even more so when the public made him out to be 'theirs' and not 'yours'.

"What do you want me to say?" You hear Ushijima's slight irritation at constant obscure pestering and endless guilt-tripping; emotions were a messy affair he loathed dealing with.

"Answer my question." It didn't matter at this point, you just wanted honest thoughts for something so pointless to ask. No one was ever attached for too long to another person, staying with someone just meant you found countless issues to deal with either alone or together. When dealing with these problems together, there was always a chance for something to go wrong that could ruin everything - it only takes one little thing to destroy a foundation.

"I do." Confirmation, a solid positive answer that gave you the motivation to move forward to ask for yet another endless dance.

"Alright." So you sway the night with prince Ushijima Wakatoshi, completely ignoring the fact that your feet was covered in blisters and pulsating in pain.
