"So, what's your next class?" Grayson questions, walking next to me towards my locker.
"Um..." I start, opening my binder and pulling my schedule out of it. "Trigonometry with Mrs. Brinn"
"Damn, we don't have the same class." He says, looking over my shoulder at my paper. "But we have third, fourth, lunch, and seventh together."
"Then, I'll see you in third." I grin, and he shakes his head, smiling. "What?"
"I'm walking you to trig, silly." He tells me, and we head off towards my trig class. Good thing he's walking me, since I haven't a clue where it is.
"What class do you have?" I ask him, adjusting my bag over my shoulder. He glances at me, and takes my bag from me, and slings it over his shoulder, opposite of the one holding his books, much to my surprise. "You don't have to carry that."
"I know." He grins. "And to answer your question, I have French."
"I have that sixth." I smile. We stop outside the door that has Mrs. Brins name next to it, and he leans against the wall next to the door.
"I'll be back to walk you to third." He tells me with a smile.
"You don't have to do that either." I tell him, and he chuckles.
"I know." He repeats, hands me my bag, and walks away. I smile and walk into the classroom. I take a seat next to a girl with short blonde hair, who is chatting with a guy with dark brown hair. I take out the supplies I need for this class, and look up to see them both staring at me.
"Sorry, is this someone's seat?" I question, getting ready to grab my things, when the girls laugh cuts me off. I look up confused.
"No, silly! We just noticed you're new, and wanted to introduce ourselves. I'm Jessica, but call me Jessie. And this is Liam, my boyfriend." The blonde, Jessie, explains.
"Oh, nice to meet you both. I'm Raelinn." I tell them with a smile.
"I love that name! How do you spell it?" Jessie questions, as Liam plays with her hair. I smile at them, seeing how obvious they love each other.
"R-a-e-l-i-n-n. But you guys can call me Rae." I explain.
"I saw you walking with Grayson Taylor earlier." Liam comments, glancing up at me.
"Yeah, I ran into him this morning, literally. He's been really nice. Why?"
"It's just very rare to see him talking to a girl, despite his reputation. He's closed off and usually sticks with his group of friends. Me being one of them, so I know." He explains and I nod.
"Why's that?" I question, glancing up to copy down the notes from the dry erase board.
"Not exactly my story to tell. Just ask him." He responds with a shrug.
The rest of class, and third goes by quickly, Grayson had sat next to me in third like he did in first. And now, it's lunch time. I walk next to Grayson, Liam, and Jessie as we walk to the lunch room. They were all in third with me.
"We sit over here." Gray tells me, leading me to their table, where a few other people are seated. "Hey guys, this is Raelinn."
"This is Kyle Johnson, Tyson Petro , Leo Gray, and Paul Hayes." Jessie introduces, pointing to the different guys seated at the table. Liam was right, there's no girls here.
"Nice to meet you all." I smile with a small wave.
"Nice to meet you too. What's your last name?" Kyle asks, pushing his blonde hair out of his face, showing his deep brown eyes.
"Emerson." I respond, taking a seat in between Jessie and Grayson, Liam on the other side of Jessie. Tyson's eyes flash with realization and I give him a look begging him to stay quiet. He just smiles, and I return it, grateful he won't tell my new friends who my dad is.
The rest of the day goes by fast, and soon I'm walking through my front door, kicking my boots off by the door, and hanging my school bag on the hook by the door. Ashton stayed after for football tryouts, and would catch a ride home later.
I walk up the stairs to my room, and lay down on my bed. I look at the post I shared on Instagram, and see a comment by someone I know. Grayson. I grin, and tap on his account, then hit follow. Moments later, I get a text from him.
I let out a sigh, and put my phone down. Well, I messed that up. He barely knows me, why did I ask that? Obviously he's not gonna tell me right now. If ever. My phone lights up with a notification, and I look at it to see that Grayson followed me back. I smile, and lay back on my bed. Maybe I didn't mess up too bad then.
Normally, I wouldn't care too much if I messed up with someone, but this being my first friend here, and him seeming real and honest and a good person, I really don't want to screw it up. Same with Liam and Jessie. It's nice having made friends already, I just hope they don't end up like my old friends.
"Rae, you home?" My dad calls out, tapping on my door.
"Yeah, come in!" I call back, and my door opens.
"How was school, Linnie?" He asks, sitting down on my bed, using my nickname he picked when I wasn't even born yet. I sit up, and place my phone on my nightstand.
"It was actually pretty good. I made some friends, they're all super nice." I tell him with a smile.
"Good. Invite them over. It would be nice to meet your new friends." He says with a smile. I give a fake one back, not entirely excited for everyone to find out who my dad is. No, I'm not ashamed or embarrassed, I just don't want to be used again. This is my new start, and it's just beginning.
