"So, what's going on, Rae?" Grayson asks, as we're seated on his bed. I got to his house about twenty minutes ago, and I've been stalling. I glance around his room, my eyes landing on a football poster of the Denver Bronco's.
"Bronco's fan, huh?" I question, looking back at him. He raises an eyebrow, then looks at the poster.
"It's an old poster. Five years ago or something. I don't watch much football anymore." He explains and I nod. "What's going on? You're stalling."
I let out a sigh, deciding it's time to talk. "So, my dad is wanting you, Liam, and Jessie to come by sometime to meet him and my mom."
"What's so wrong about that? Ashamed of us?" He teases. I let out a shaky laugh, shaking my head.
"Of course not. I'm not ashamed of anything, more so worried. My dad is Ryder Emerson." I say, and look up at him. Something clicks and his eyes widen.
"As in, Cowboy's traded to Bronco's, Ryder Emerson?" He questions.
"That would be the one." I nod, looking down at my hands.
"Why are you so worried about us meeting him?" He asks, his head tilted to the side in confusion. I have to stop myself from gawking at how cute he looks.
"All of my friends in Texas, when they realized who he was... who I was... they started treating me differently. They started using me to get near my dad. My ex-boyfriend wanted me to get my dad to help him get into college on a football scholarship. He broke up with me and started rumors about me when I said no."
I look up and see Grayson watching me, listening intently to my story. When I told him about my ex I could see anger flash in his eyes. "I just... I don't want that to happen again. It would suck if we stopped being friends. Because even if we've known each other all of two weeks, I trust you. And Liam and Jessie. But mostly you. You've become my best friend."
"Ryder Emerson, the football player, doesn't matter to me. Ryder Emerson, the dad of my best friend, is who matters. I don't care that he's famous, or you're famous. I'm friends with you because of who you are, not your dad, or your money." Grayson tells me, and I believe him completely. I smile at him, feeling a lot better now.
