Rue POV

I was like 5 minutes away from Lexi's house and honestly, my mind was everywhere. I'm really worried about Lexi and I wanted to tell her how I felt about her for the last 4 years of my life. But I'm worrying a girl I met only a few moments.

"Rue snap out of it remember why are you here," I say out to myself after I slapped myself across the face.

After my miniature argument with my thoughts. I realized I was at Lexi and Cassie's house. The feeling of being over again gave me a similar euphoric high. I had when I had fentanyl but this time I was on drugs and I was actually happy. I dropped my bike in their driveway and walked to their door. I started getting closer to the door. All the memories started flooding back to my mind. All the good and bad ones.

Flashback

Rue? Rue? Rue, did you hear me? Lexi asked me.

Huh? What? I said snapping out my trance. For everyone wondering, I was just staring at Lexi

"I asked you how did I look?" Lexi responded.

Lexi was getting dressed so she can go to the 8th-grade dance. She had one this short red off the shoulder dress that just fit her physically and personality-wise.

"You look stunning". I mumble to myself. I put on a fake smile not because she looked bad or anything. It was more of the fact she was going to the dance with someone else.

Apparently, Lexi must have read my whole facial expression because the smile she had moments ago had fallen.

"You hate it don't you?" She asked with a hint of devastation in her voice.

"No no Lex I think you look great," I say to her with a reassuring smile.

"Are you sure? Do you think he'll like it?"

I would explain who he is but he isn't worth wasting my breath over. He didn't deserve to take Lexi to the dance. He's only taking her because I couldn't work up the courage myself to ask her.

"He's a fool if he doesn't," I say laughing

'Damn Lex, you've been in here a long ass time. 3 hours to be exact. You look really good so I guess it was worth the time. You look good too Rue Rue." Cassie says leaning against the door frame smiling.

"Shouldn't y'all be leaving the dance starts soon right?" Mom said she'll drive y'all Cassie says.

"Well, my lady, our chariot awaits," I say smiling and holding my hand out toward Lexi.

After what felt like an eternity of a walk. I reached their door and rung their doorbell.

"It's now or never Rue," I say to myself.

The door slowly opens and I see a very familiar face but not the familiar face. I was expecting to see. It was Cassie

Cassie just smiles and pulls me into a hug.

"I'm glad to see that you are here and that you are better." She says whispering into my ear during our hug.

"But I'm pretty sure you didn't come here to see me." Cassie continues. She's upstairs.

Before I could say anything Cassie tells me one last thing.

"I know you have feelings for her Rue. I can tell by the way you look at her. Just tell her how you feel." Cassie smiles and pats me on the back.

"That's exactly what I came here to do. No more waiting I let her slip once I won't let it happen again." I tell Cassie before walking up the stairs.

I reach Lexi's room and my heart drops to my ass. What if Lexi doesn't see me? What if she's mad I overdosed and went to rehab? But what if she wants to see me? Well if I keep standing here like a fucking statue. I'll never know. I put my hand doorknob and turned it.

"Hey, Cass who was at the door?" Lexi asks while still looking at her laptop.

"Actually it's not Cassie". I say very shyly.

Lexi looked up at me and her jaw dropped.

"Oh my God Rue" Lexi gets up and runs towards me to pull me into a tight hug.

"I really missed you. I've been worried sick since the day I found out you left for rehab. She tells me while tearing up.

"I'm soo sorry Lexi I'm sorry that I had you worried about me. But before I let you say anything else I have to get this off my chest." I say to her while wiping her tears away.

"I've actually been wanting to tell you something also. But I'll let you go first." She tells me.

"Lexi I really like you. I've liked you since we were in the 7th grade. I always get all giddy and nervous around you. I just enjoy being around you, your smile just lights up my world I could be having the worst day the moment I look at my phone and see a text from you and my face lights up" before I could even finish what wanted to see I feel a pair of lips connect with mine.

When I finally realized what was going on Lexi pulled away and smiled. "Do you know how long I've been waiting to do that?"

"A long time I suppose" I say laughing.

"Well since we already shared our first kiss and I haven't even took you out on a date yet. I'll go ahead and ask you out."

Lexi Howard will you do me the biggest honor and be my girlfriend? I ask her with a big goofy smile.

It would be my pleasure Ms. Bennett. She responds laughing. I hope you know you are going to be my date to McKay's party. She continues saying.

Of course nothing would make me happier.
I say grabbing her hand and holding it.

"Rue Lex dinner is ready" Cassie says standing in the doorway smirking.

"It's about damn time Bennett" Cassie says laughing.

"But I did it though right?" I say to Cassie with a snarky attitude.

"Well lovebirds hurry up and finish what y'all had going on mom wants y'all down for dinner." Cassie says walking back down the stairs.

I look at Lexi and smile. This is first time I've genuinely been happy in a long time. Well after you my lady. I say to her.

"Oh wow what a gentleman" she smiles and laughs.

Lexi grabs my hand and leads me down the stairs. And we had dinner.
