For someone who insisted that he hated her, Draco Malfoy sure loved to only ever talk about Arden Diggory. However, Draco Malfoy didn't hate Arden Diggory, of course news of this change of mind hadn't traveled around the school just yet, so Draco's continuous questions and rambles about the Hufflepuff began to confuse his peers.
"What do you think she even sees in Potter?" Draco asked after swallowing a large gulp of water. "It's not like they have much in common anyways."
Pansy Parkinson's mouth hung open slightly, her eyes devoid of all life or interest, face resting in the palm of her hand as she mindlessly tuned out Draco's obsession with Arden Diggory. Draco furrowed his brow as he turned to Pansy, snapping his fingers in front of her face as he noticed her eyes staring off into space.
"Parkinson, I asked you a question," he snapped.
"And I wasn't listening," Pansy droned, sighing so hard her bangs flew up out of her eyes. "Honestly Draco, I don't care about Potter or his stupid girlfriend."
Draco scowled at Pansy, but not this time for her blatantly ignoring him, but for calling Arden stupid. For years he had taunted the poor girl for her horrible performance in classes, but after discovering her uncontrollable magic he finally knew the reason behind her struggles and felt a deep guilt for contributing to the endless taunts. Draco opened his mouth to retort, but simply just sighed and took another sip of water instead of defending Arden; he had already raised suspicion from talking about her so much, he didn't want to make things stranger by defending his 'sworn enemy.'
"Why are you always on about her anyway? For years it's always Arden this, Arden that, even when you're saying something nasty it's all about her! Aren't you tired of obsessing over some girl that doesn't even react to anything you do?" Pansy spat. Draco looked at her wide eyed; Pansy wasn't normally one to snap at Draco, or even any of his other friends, so it was a surprise to see her be so hostile towards him. A part of him wanted to call her out on her jealousy of Arden, but the other part of him wanted to stay quiet, because she had a point.
Pansy was finally fed up with Draco and scoffed at his blank expression. She then got up from the Slytherin table in a rush, making no effort into saying goodbye to Draco or her friends surrounding them as she did so. Draco sighed deeply knowing that Pansy for once wasn't off her rocker, he really was obsessed with a girl that never reacted to a thing he did. Even though now the two had exchanged conversation, and shared a few moments with questionable emotions flown around, he still realised how pathetic it was that this girl that he had supposedly hated for five years was always on his mind.
