"Fine."

I stood up and roughly wiped my sleeve across my eyes again in a futile attempt to make my vision more clear. All it did was iritate and redden the skin around my eyes. I stumbled over to the swirling stairs and climbed them hastily to the third floor.

My room was the first one on the right and I wasted no time in shoving my door open. I kicked the door closed behind me out of habit as I yanked a black backpack from underneath a box in my closet.

I threw clothes in blindly as the tears continued to fall. I reached under my pillow to retrieve the knife kept there and tossed it carelessly into the bag. It would be my backup in case I lost the knife hanging on my hip. I pulled the thin blanket off my bed and stuffed it haphazardly into the bag.

I knew it would be easier if I took the time to fold it but I wasn't sure if I had that much self control at the moment.

I raced out of my room, closing the door once again, and found my way down a story. Dions door was open slightly so all I had to do was push to enter. The extremely clean room felt almost unlived in. Of course, there were the obvious signs of life such as the pillow being sunk in slightly and one of the closet doors being ajar, allowing me to glance at the clothes hanging inside.

I leaned down, allowing my hair to fall around me as I opened the bottom drawer of his nightstand. As he said, the sweet bread was sitting inside. It looked like small bits had already been pulled off. No doubt the cause being Dew. It was his favorite.

I grabbed the rest of the loaf and shoved it into the bag, not really caring if I crushed it or not. It just needed to fit. I shut the drawer and yanked on the zipper with sharp moments as I left the room.

I took the stairs two at a time to the bottom floor, my last stop being the kitchen where I grabbed a single canteen. It was the biggest and I knew it belonged to Mom because of the W printed on the bottom in black ink. I attached the canteen to my backpack before sliding it onto my back. The bag caught awkwardly on my hood and I shook the pack on my back with frustration.

I walked out of the house, closing the front door quietly in case Lavender or someone else heard and decided to question me. I wasn't in the mood for confrontation.

Nothing they say would change my mind anyways. I was leaving no matter what. No matter what they said or what excuses they made. It was all just lies.

I rounded the side of the house and approached the stables. Two out of the three stalls were empty meaning my brothers and Dad had taken the warp weasels. My flying reindeer, Fallow, looked up as I began taking the pin out of the door lock of his stall.

I opened the door, letting Fallow walk out on his own as I closed it behind him. When I turned around to mount Fallow, a ray was staring directly at me. Onyx tilted his head to the side, indicating confusion, and tried to land on my shoulder.

"Stop it! Go away!" I yelled, swatting the creature away. It made a little squawking sound in alarm as it backed up. It landed on Fallows stall door and just sat in silence as I turned away.

A little pang of guilt settled in my chest as I climbed onto Fallow. I clicked his reins, signalling him to take off. I just didn't want him following me.

Fallow jumped into the air and used his abilities to stay up as he gracefully flew upwards. I passed over our cousins home, not worrying about them seeing me because they were away helping the College of Insecta.

I continued until I reached the village that sat in the middle of the forest. I touched down at the end of the forest and let Fallow walk around the village, keeping to the back alleys and outside roads. It was slower to walk but kept me out of sight. Many people knew me and my family here.

As soon as the other side of the forest came into view, I had Fallow start running. We picked up speed, making it much easier to take off into the sky once we were close enough.

This side of the forest was much denser and much less populated making it harder to stay concealed. We had to fly mostly on top of the trees. We didn't have to stay on the surface long before we came upon my favorite place to hide.

We dropped down suddenly into the brush and scraped past a few large trees before coming to a stop at a cave entrance. I slid off of Fallow and led him into the cave. I knocked on the rock wall for a moment before listening closely.

I heard nothing. Good. Nothing had moved in while I was away.

Fallow chose his usual spot and layed down on the old hay placed on the floor. I sat my bag against the wall near him.

I kneeled on the floor for a moment as I pulled a blanket from my bag. I leaned back against Fallow and let him set his head on my lap. My hand instinctively reached up and began scratching his head between his ears and large antlers.

I looked towards the cave's mouth and caught a glimpse at the moons and sky from between the trees. It was almost completely dark outside. It was likely that my family had made it home by now and already noticed my absence.

They wouldn't come looking for me yet. They would wait until the next day, when I usually showed up again. That would be their downfall. I wouldn't be coming back.
