Darkness Rising (fanfic) (4th book in Destiny series)

Chapter 1: News

Sunlight sparkled through a window and warmed a carpeted flood in a hallway. Ericka carefully avoided it by walking on the opposite wall. She jumped down when she came to the staircase that led to the lobby. As she walked down she heard a voice with a thick accent come from above. "What are you doing up at this hour? You could get burned." She looked up to see Dracula hanging from the ceiling like a bat.

"Well so could you." She said.

"Good point." He said. He turned into a bat and flew down to her.

"So what are you doing up?" She asked as he turned back to normal.

"Can't sleep," He said, "What about you?"

"Same." She said.

"I'm also awake!" Atom said from a nearby couch. They saw that he was watching the news and heard the news caster's voice boom out in a serious tone,

"Strange activity has been occurring in a forest called Black Fog..."

"We're surrounded by that forest." Drac said, walking up to the couch and leaning on it. The newscaster has stopped talking and some video footage of the forest at night had started to play.

"Nothing yet." A voice said from behind the camera, it sounded like a young man in his thirties. Something big and black flashed behind a nearby tree and the footage glitched slightly. The man's breathing was fast and ragged as he started to back up. Whatever the back thing was it launched itself out from behind the trees and in quick second before the camera glitched out you could see it had long arms and legs and a human like structure. It had no face, it was completely engulfed in this black looking liquid and a black fog followed it. It's so called hands had long looking claws and the only thing that wasn't black was it's two glowing red dots on its blank face. The newscaster popped back up on the t.v and continued to talk,

"We found the man's body only a few hours ago." A picture of the man's dead body showed up on the screen, larger than life claw marks were scored across his chest, his eyes had been ripped from their sockets with violent force and the left side of his skull had been smashed. The picture had zoomed in on the man's neck and to their surprise there was two puncture wounds that looked just like Ericka's bite scar from Drac, but it had blood oozing from it. The picture minimized to the right corner of the TV and the newscaster was back, "we know this was no animal attack," He announced, "we don't like jumping to conclusions, but we all think it was the monster Dracula who was behind this attack."

"WHAT!?!" Drac screamed at the TV, "YOU HAVE NO PROOF!!"

"They do have the bite mark." Ericka said in a small voice.

"THAT COULD OF BEEN ANYTHING!!" He snapped at her. She jumped back in surprise to his angry response.

"Um Drac?" Atom asked.

"What now?" Drac snarled at Atom. Somehow a computer appeared out of nowhere onto Atom's lap.

"I found the rest of the video online," Atom said as they sat next to him on both sides, "and your not going to believe this." He clicked play and the camera in the man's hands was knocked to the ground, but it still recorded. It showed the monster ripped out the man's eyes, cracked his skull, and then it changed. The strange black liquid on its limbs was absorbed by something underneath the liquid and make some sort of black clothing. The fog around it vaporized into nothing. It's hands and face were no longer black but a sickly yellowish-whitish skin color and it's hands still had freakishly long claws. It turned it's head and it now had a face, but not a face you'd want to see. It looked exactly like Dracula. Except its eyes weren't blue but dark red with small pupils. It swung its head back over to the man and sunk it's two fangs into his neck. When he receded from the man it's mouth was dripping from blood. He perked up when something cracked in the forest around it and a flashlight reflected off of some trees. The thing had its hands on its face and the black liquid come back out and it was a black monster again and its face only had two red dots again. It looked into the camera, and disappeared as the camera died.

"Wow that was so not disturbing." Ericka said.

"Agreed," Drac said, "and do i really look that yellow?"

"Hold on," Atom said, going back to when the thing was staring into the camera. "i know this thing."

"You KNOW it?!" they said in surprise.

"Not personally," Atom said, looking fearful, "but i know it..it's the Darkness...it has returned."
