Chapter 3:
Ace had just returned from his run when he heard the banging on the door. He grabbed his gun and went to see who it was. Rolling his eyes, he opened the door to see his father. The mafia boss walked around Ace and sat on the couch. He looked up at Ace and motioned with his hand for Ace to sit.
"Father." Ace said as he sat down. He wanted to know why his dad was there. He never made house visits.
"Son, I'll cut to the chase," said his father, Anton. "You're eighteen. It's time you came back and took your place as Don."
Ace didn't know what to say, he was relieved nothing bad had happened but he was disappointed Evangeline was not at his side to hear the news.
"You'll move back in to finish your training of course-"
"No." Ace knew there'd be a but, he had bought this house for Evangeline and their future family, there was no way he was leaving it. His father had been against the house from the beginning. He had said that Ace needed to stay with his family, it was his mother that had persuaded Anton. Ace should have known there would be something about the house.
Anton stood up threateningly. He was not accustomed to being told no, and yet when Ace stood up to hold his ground, it was clear who would win in a fight.
Anton chuckled and sat back down. He moved closer to his son and patted him on the knee.
"She's quite the girl, eh?"
Ace laughed, happy that the disagreement had ended peacefully. The smile dropped off his face, when he heard his father's next words: "It'd be a shame if some of your constituents thought you were weak because of her. I'd hate for them to try to toughen you up with her death"
Ace was up before Anton even finished his sentence. He didn't take threats lightly, especially ones about his beloved. Picking Anton up by his neck, Ace pushed him into a wall.
"I'll show them how tough I am. I'll kill them all for her. Don't ever threaten me."
A red-faced Anton nodded to the best of his ability and when Ace let him go he dropped to the floor coughing. Anton composed himself to the best of his ability, nodded and walked out the door.

Ace was standing in front of Evangeline's house. He had left right after his father, needed the calming effect of her face. Not that she was here.
It was odd. Evangeline was always home. She didn't have any friends, she always did group assignments alone, she never dated-not that Ace minded he liked the fact he'd have her all to himself when it was time. But right now, Ace was worried. Her room light was off. In fact, the whole house was dark.
He saw the bushes move. He moved closer to see Evangeline walking through the bushes, looking around. Perhaps trying not to be seen? He followed her subtly until the bushes ended. She made a run for it and he saw how well practiced she was at sneaking out of her house.
This angered him. Who was she meeting? What had she been up to?
Ace continued to follow until she skillfully made her way twelve blocks over. And there stood a man Ace knew. Evangeline walked up to him and slid something over-money. Rogelio counted the money and laughed. Ace had been on enough drug deals with Rogelio to know what that meant, she was short, and he knew how Rogelio dealt with women being short.
Why did she need to meet with Rogelio? What was she buying? What was she on? Was she ok?
Ace looked up to see Evangeline taking off her shirt. She wasn't new to this. She was short often. Her shoulders were shaking. She was crying and Rogelio went up and cupped her breast while he worked on unbuttoning her pants.
Ace snapped out of his trance and stormed up to them while pulling out his gun. Rogelio looked up and smiled his toothy smile.
"Hey boss, want a piece?" and with that, Ace shot him.
Ace ran over to Evangeline and checked her over. She was sobbing uncontrollably with blood on her face and clothes. Ace wrapped his arms around her and tried to warm her up. He wished he had moved Rogelio before he shot him.
Ace looked down to see Evangeline sound asleep in his arms. She must have been exhausted. He shook his head and called Brett to send a car and send Brooke with it.
While he waited, he pried the sleeping girl's hands open to see the drugs. He opened the brown paper bag to see Heroin. He cursed softly, hoping his girl wasn't on this stuff. But then, how else could he explain anything from tonight?
