They got back from dinner several minutes before 11 PM. Lucas and Yuqi bid both of his parents a goodnight before mounting up the staircase in silence. The only sound accompanying their steps was the sound of the rain hammering the rooftop and tapping the glass windows. Yeah, it was raining again.
Once they reached Yuqi's room, Lucas turned left toward Jun's room but he halted when Yuqi tugged on his sleeve. He turned around and found her leaning onto the door's frame, staring at him with cute puppy eyes. "Why?" he asked her.
"Are you going straight to bed?" she asked him back, looking slightly flushed and glassy-eyed.
He tilted his head at her. "Why? What do you want?"
"It's not even 11 yet..." she trailed off, biting her lower lips absentmindedly. He arched one eyebrow at her, wondering what she was gonna say next. "We could watch a movie or play a game before going to bed.." she proposed rather vaguely.
Lucas grinned at her lame excuses. "Just say you're scared to be alone and want me to accompany you..." he teased her.
"I'm not..."
"Well, in that case, you should go to sleep, we've got a pack of schedules tomorrow..." Lucas peeled her arm from his sleeve, holding his laughter at her stricken expression.
"Aaaah, Xuxi..." she whined, pulling his arm rather fiercely when he pretended to leave.
"What? You said you're not scared..." he teased her again. She pursed her lips and refused to let go of his arm. He laughed softly at her reaction and mused. "Ok, scaredy-cat! Let me get change first..." she glanced up at him, looking suspicious. "You should get change too unless you want me to help you change—ouch!" he grunted when a hit landed on his chest.
Lucas walked toward her room several minutes later after raiding the refrigerator's contents in the kitchen counter. Once he entered the room, he noticed that Yuqi no longer wearing her plaid dinner dress. She was clad in a green-colored pajama with a cartoon giraffe printed on the left chest.
He sniggered softly, Yuqi and her giraffe's obsession will always be funny and adorable to him. 'They're so cute, tall and majestic' she said to him one day in childlike tone, talking him into taking her to the zoo. 'I'm cute, tall and majestic too, you can stare at me all day long, I won't complaint', he retorted her and one hour after that snide remark he ended up in Seoul Grand Park, taking more than a hundred pictures of her and her beloved giraffes.
"So, what are we watching?" he asked as he plopping down beside Yuqi on the bed.
"Um..."
"I never heard a movie called 'Um' before..." She ignored his sarcastic comment and continued to mull over his question. "You have no idea, don't you?" Her cheeks turned slightly pink. "So what should we do now?" he asked her while opening a bag of potato chips he brought earlier. "Should we continue the Supernatural—"
"No!!!" she refused his suggestion vehemently, eyes widened in horror.
Lucas chuckled. "Then what?"
"Let's watch a cartoon..." she decided after a while.
"Ok..."
After several minutes of arguing about which cartoon to watch, Lucas gave up and let her choose Madagascar.
"Xuxi..." Yuqi mused thirty minutes into the movie. Lucas hummed without tearing his eyes from the flatscreen TV. "Did—"
"No, they didn't have a giraffe on their zoo..." he interrupted her question while sipping up his coke.
