Light stared out his window, playing with his ballpoint pen. His thoughts went back to the killings. Had he left any traces? Was anything too suspicious? Soon, his thoughts drifted away, and he stared mindlessly out the window.

I've never seen you looking so listless, Light. Ryuk commented as he stared at Light. Light's focus was on the world outside his window.

"I'm just relaxing. Being Kira can take a lot out of you. All you hear nowadays when you go out is Kira Vs. L and stuff like that and it just stresses Kira out." He rubbed his forehead. He got up. "Well, if I weren't Kira, I guess this kind of stuff would be interesting. . ." He laid himself down on his bed, yawning.

So, what about Jaehyung? Light's eyes widened as he remembered about him. He quickly turned on his TV and switched it onto the news channel. He watched it for a good ten minutes but nothing about Jaehyung came up.

He'd made sure to make his death public and gruesome as ever despite his hesitance to do so. But nothing about Jaehyung even came up! He let out a frustrated exhalation as he turned his TV off. The police force were probably not publicising deaths so they could keep Kira from knowing whether or not he'd succeeded.

He groaned, putting a hand to his face. Why're you stressing out so much, Light? Surely, he would be dead if you wrote his name? Ryuk asked as he hovered above Light. Light pondered upon Ryuk's question for a moment. He slowly got up and made his way over his to desk. He pulled open the drawer and got out an old picture. He rested on the edge of his bed, staring at the image with dulled eyes.

This was going to be the last physical memory that he'd have of Jaehyung. It was a picture from the past. It was at Jaehyung's birthday party. Light had been invited. When they were younger, they had been the best of friends. That changed over the years, but Light's feelings only developed further. Now, he was killing the only one he'd originally set his eyes on.

If only. . . Jae understood what he was doing. Why he was doing this. He had to purge this world of all kinds of evil. Jaehyung was acting as an obstacle and he just couldn't have that. He stared at the picture intently before gritting his teeth.

He had to move on. Kira wasn't a petty fool. He was a God. A God sometimes had to make the decision of ending people's lives. He would be doing this to pave the way to a safer world. He had to do it.

He tossed the memorabilia aside and plopped onto his bed again. Ryuk was too busy munching on an apple that he'd found in Light's room to tease him.

"Hmm. . ." He mumbled. He let out a sigh before flicking through a magazine. He stopped at the article about Kira and L and was about to turn his attention to it when a pounding started on his door. He got up as he heard his sister, Sayu. The door's handle moved up and down frantically.

"Light. . . Why's your door locked?!" She whined. Light pulled open the door once unlocking it and he was greeted with the sight of Sayu, holding up her maths book. "Hey Light! I need help." She informed.

(M/n)'s POV

(M/n) played nervously with his hands as Matsuda helped L and the others in the task force. He knew that he definitely wasn't going to school tomorrow. He constantly laced and unlaced his fingers. He was cut from his thoughts by a poke to his head. He looked up to see L gazing down at him, hands in his pockets and his black irises curiously bore into his own.

"You're hiding something." L simply stated.

"Just nervous about exams coming up." He muttered, trying to mask his fears. L's eyes were burning into him. He looked back, trying not to break. Suddenly, L emitted a low chuckle.

"Jaehyung. . . Don't think you can try and trick me. I know for a fact that you don't really mind what you get. You just try your best, without too much care for the outcome." He placed himself on the sofa in his usual weird position. "Jae, tell me the real purpose of your worry." He said sternly as he snatched a sweet from the coffee table in front of them and shoved it into his mouth.

"Alright. . ." (M/n) started. "I'm scared about Kira. Since I've been helping here, I've always had this feeling that he's going to find out who I really am. . . I'm worried he's going to kill me or someone close to me. I can't lose more people! I've already lost my family, I don't want others getting hurt too!" (M/n) exclaimed.

There was a little truth behind (M/n)'s words. He'd thought hard of an efficient excuse to give. L did something unexpected. He placed his palm on the top of (M/n)'s fiddling fingers.

"Jaehyung. Kira probably doesn't know that you've been helping us. . . Also, even if he were to ever find out, he wouldn't know your real name. He never will. I won't allow it. The current people who know your identity is me and Matsuda and we sure as hell will protect you until the very ends of our lives." L muttered monotonously.

He then got up and went back to help the others. (M/n) found some relief and safety in L's words. He let himself relax and slouch on the sofa. . .

"Kira will never know who I really am. . ." He whispered, slowly shutting his eyes. He jumped when he suddenly felt a vibration come from his phone. He glanced over at L and the others, making sure that they weren't looking in his direction. Once he was assured that they weren't eyeing him down, he turned his attention to his phone.

He slipped it out of his pocket, checking what it was that had set his phone off. He realised that it was a message from Light. For a whole moment, he forgot what he'd seen in the streets as he read through the message.

'I love you, Jae. . . I'm sorry it had to be this way.' Jaehyung raised his eyebrows. He texted Light a message and sent it.

'What the fuck do you mean?' After five minutes of just thinking (M/n)'s eyes widened. He was like a doe caught in headlights. Light had most likely tried to kill him, but he didn't have his real name! He'd just proved to Light that he was alive. Frantically, he pulled his phone out, about to unsend the message when the phone was swiped from him.

(M/n) squeaked in horror and met eyes with L. He had a look of annoyance. "Phones are to be completely switched off whilst you're in here." L stated. (M/n) watched in horror as he noticed that Light had read the message just as L switched his phone off. (M/n) felt dread bubble up inside of him.

He was a real fucking idiot. L walked off as (M/n) sat there in shock. He was dumbfounded. He'd just fucked himself over. . . Light would realise that he hadn't managed to finish him off!
