Chapter 8: Starting the Tour

I'm having so much fun writing this story! I did not think I would have so many reads. I'm trying to write quickly, but I want to make sure the content is good, so thank you for all your patience!

{Joey's POV}

"Brian, have you seen my Michigan sweatshirt?" I yelled across the apartment to Brian who was in the kitchen.

"Which one? You brought like three with you!" Brian responded.

Brian had graciously allowed me to stay with him during rehearsals, but today is the day we are hitting the road to start our tour. I walked into the living room and found what I was looking for.

"Got it!" I said and went back into the guest room to finish packing. Rehearsals had gone well the past couple of days and we were ready to go. It was so much fun seeing everyone again and hanging out like old times. The nicest part though, was seeing Lauren. She took my breath away when I first saw her at the studio. It was really surreal seeing her again. We decided when we broke up that we needed to take some time away from each other, so we haven't spoken since our break-up. It's going to be interesting to be stuck on a tour bus with her for the next month.

"Let's go, Joey!" Brian called out. I grabbed my bag and walked out of the apartment to Brian's car.

"Choose your beds! I'll be with the band in the other bus, so I better not hear about any shenanigans," Nick said as he boarded his bus. "First stop is in Indianapolis, and I'd like to get on the road, so hurry up!"

I rushed on the bus to claim a bed and threw my bag onto the first open bed I found. I flopped down on the couch beside Joe and said, "So what do we do now?"

The girls walked onto the bus to claim their own beds and I noticed that Lauren walked into the same area as my bed. When she came back she didn't have her bag. I just hope we won't be in the same room.

A couple hours later we arrived in Indianapolis and got off the bus to set up for the show. I always get nervous before shows, but I know this is going to be so much fun. It's great to be with everyone again and perform all of our old songs. I'm just hoping "Granger Danger" goes well. Rehearsals were fine, but now we have to be in front of a crowd to sing it. Thankfully, we're actors, so we'll be able to hide our feelings pretty well. Hopefully.

After we set up for the show and got into our costumes, we kicked off the first show of the tour. It was just like old times being on stage with my friends. We killed the first couple of songs and it was time for me to sing with Lauren. We decided to sit on stools for the song so we didn't have to choreograph anything. The only thing we have planned is really random. Nick wants us to touch each other's faces before the song and compliment each other. I thought about what to say, but I don't quite know what I'll do yet.

It was time for us to go out on stage for our song. Lauren and I grabbed our stools and walked on stage. We were immediately met with cheers. I guess the audience knows what we're going to sing. We got our microphones set up and sat down. We were supposed to act like we were sharing secrets about a girl that we liked. I told her that I had a confession and that was our cue to touch each other's faces.

Lauren started. While touching my friend she said, "Tell me your problems, my dearest and most precious friend, and I'll help you out as best as I can." This made the crowd go crazy as she played with my hair.

I responded with, "Thank you my softest and loyalist friend," while touching her face . 

Then, after a little more banter, we launched into the song. I sang the first part, and it was going really well. Then, we got to Lauren's section.

When she sang the lyric "She is the hottest girl I've ever seen," she grabbed my thigh. It caught me so off guard and I had to fight so hard to keep my cool and continue the song. We haven't been this close in a long time.

Somehow, I made it through and we finished the song to deafening cheers from the audience. Lauren and I grabbed our stools  and rushed off stage to get ready for the rest of the show. 

We finished the show, and after striking the stage, we headed back to the buses to hit the road. Our next stop is in Columbus, which isn't far, but we want to get there by the morning so we are going to drive overnight and sleep until morning. We were all exhausted, so we decided to change into our pajamas and get ready for bed.

I quickly fell asleep in my bunk, but was woken up I think a couple of hours later by some motion.

Somebody was crawling into my bunk. My eyes shot open, and after letting my eyes adjust a little to the light, I immediately realized that it was Lauren. 

I didn't know what to do. I think she's sleep walking. Should I wake her up? No, you're never supposed to wake someone who's sleep walking, I thought. She curled up beside me, like she's done so many times before. This time, though, it's different. We've broken up. This isn't what broken up couples do. However, I'm trapped in my bunk. There's no way for me to get out. 

I think I'll just have to try to stay pressed up against the wall and stay away from her. I felt my eyelids once again becoming very heavy and drifted off to sleep.
