I woke up two days later. I passed out for. To much pain from the back and the burns and my body needed to shut down for them to heal more. I had t seen anyone from the gang I think they were all real scared and didn't want to see me. I heard Dally almost died on the news apparently he pulled a gun out on the fuzz and the fuzz were about to shoot but e boys from the gang stopped them to let them know he was having emotional issues and the gun wasn't loaded. I heard he also went through trial and they let him go because he cried the whole time I didn't know what that was about. I also got let off the hook for me being strictly of self defense. I was happy and I only had another week in this hospital before they wrapped me up and sent me home. I was out of the ICU and my depression had gotten so much better I was rarely sad anymore. The only times I had been sad is if I didn't see the boys and whenever that new nurse that went by. She had been volunteering here. I had never seen her face but from the back of her she looked so much like Laine I wanted to cry. My nurse came into the room.
"Johnny do you want to go for a walk?"
She asked. I was mad now.
"I can't walk"
I said.
"I meant I will walk you come on let's go make some friends before you leave?"?"
She said. I sighed then let in she picked me up and set me in my wheel chair. They did a surgery and put a metal pole in my back and I also have to wear a cast around my torso.
"Look what a beautiful day it is"
She said as we passed a big window. I hadn't been outside in forever.
"I miss being out there with my friends"
I said. She sighed.
"Johnny I have tried calling them I'm not suppose to but I know they mean more to you than your actually family but no one is answering"
She said. I didn't say anything and she sighed.
"Johnny I'm gonna be out tonight for my sons concert so I just wanted to let you know the volunteer nurse will be filling in for me okay?"
She said. I nodded and she smiled.
"Johnny I ink you will like her"
She stated. She took. E to lunch then I stayed in my room I had her leave me in my chair so I could practice. I sat at the window in my room. I was reading Gone With The Wind. My nurse walked in and I didn't face her I knew it was the volunteer. All she could see was the back of my head. I looked at my light reflection in the window only I could see. It felt so weird without my bangs now.
"Hi........."
She said trailing off looking through her files for me.
"Johnny"
She whispered to herself as if she was upset.
"Sorry hi Johnny are you feelin alright?"
She asked in the Tulsa accent.
"Don't you go to a college out if this state?"
I asked.
"Why yes I do and why do you ask?"
She said still in the accent.
"You haven't been here long enough to pick up the accent"
I stated.
"Well believe it or not I used to live in this parts that's why I requested this hospital from my college I'm going to surprise my family tonight"
She said. I smiled thinking if the gang.
"I wish my friends would come and visit me"
I said. She sighed.
"Do you want to tell me about your family?"
She asked sitting on my bed. I kept myself turned away from her still.
"There is 7 of us all together there used to be 8 but she is gone now. I'm second youngest there not family by blood but they are family by heart. I have known all of them forever. Most of them are jokesters ones mature another is a bad boy always getting in with the fuzz and the last one is full of wonder. I'm mostly there let but they all love me and right now they don't want to see me in pain because it hurts them too."
I said she was the first person I had told about my feelings in forever. She came and bent down next to me looking out the window but not at me and I didn't look at her we just stared out the window together.
"Greaser side of town huh?"
She said.
"Yes"
I answered. She smiled.
"Those used to be my old parts of town"
She said before getting up. I made sure she didn't look at me still keeping myself faced away.
"Are you going to be staying in your chair for a little but more?"
I nodded at her question.
"Ok well I have to do your checkup on your burns to make sure there is no infection. Can you please face me?"
She asked. I shuddered at her words. She was really pretty I didn't want to ruin it by showing her my face.
"Please"
She begged again. I finally let in and turned lightly just to see those bright blue eyes staring directly at me she stepped back. I felt tears run down my cheeks.
"Johnny!"
She yelled. I felt more come as she started crying too.
"Laine?"
I asked lightly. I saw her shudder and let more tears fall. She walked over to me and I pulled her into a hug keeping embraced around me. I sat her on my lap.
"See you would always come back to me"
I said before I pulled her lips to mine.
I had the most beautiful girl I had ever I won back in my life.
