Chapter 11

She pulled off my lap.
"Oh my god"
She muttered to herself. I was immediately angry.
"What!"
I snapped.
"Johnny I'm only here for a month as. Then I'm leaving again I can't get tangled up with you.
"No you just don't like me now because of my burns!"
I snapped sorta mad that she let me kiss her.
"Johnny no nothing will ever make me change the way I feel about you I cry every night over you, I had to stop writing letters or I would just hurt my self again"
She said. I turned from her.
"Johnny" she said. I turned even more trying to hide my sadness.
"I'm sorry Johnny"
She said.
"I can't walk Laine my skin is pretty much gone I know I'm no longer worth it"
I said. She cried even more.
"Johnny your worth everything in the whole entire world I spent that whole week trying to find reasons to leave and go to New York or stay and leave New York behind me and no matter how many times I tried the numbers kept adding up to you no matter what I put it I couldn't find one reason to leave you and that's why I had to"
She said through all her tears. I didn't answer her I had to ignore her. She walked over to the phone in the room. I didn't know what or who she was calling but once I heard her say something I knew who it was.
"Hi Pony"
She said. I waited a second and then I heard her laugh.
"Yes it's me can I talk to Darry?"
She asked. I waited for another second.
"Hi Darry can you meet me down at the hospital with the guys?"
"Yah I'm back here in Tulsa don't tell the guys yet just meet me in Johnny's old room"
She said before hanging up. I saw her crash down onto my bed and curl up the guys would be here soon. As I rolled out the door I saw her crying her eyes were closed but the tears kept escaping. I rolled all the way to the waiting room on the other side of the building away from the main doors out of sight. I could still hear the boys as they entered I felt them come closer then muffled noises when they entered my room. I heard Dally's loud and clear.
"I'm assuming you heard"
He said. I was confused so I started rolling back I heard Laine's crying become clearer.
"I know baby were all real sad Johnny was a great guy........."
I was right out the door about to pull myself into sight until he finished.
"I'm so sorry he's dead"
Did Dally really think I died that night. I pushed my self back waiting for Laine.
"He is not dead"
She said through her sobs.
"What?!"
He asked confused. I missed them so much I had to do it now or it would be to late. I kept my head down and rolled in.
"He-Hey guys"
I said I heard multiple gasps and Dally ran to me and hugged me. I was amazed Dally never hugged any one not even his sister.
"Johhny?"
Pony asked in tears.
"Yah Pone"
He shuddered at my words and rolled myself into my room.
"Laine can I have some help into bed?"
I asked. She wiped her tears away with the back of her hands.
"Sure"
She said. I rolled up to the side of the bed.
"Dally can you hold his waist for me?"
She asked. Dally nodded and I couldn't be more awkward in the room. Dally did as he was ordered and held my waist Laine pulled me up holding my arms as Dally kept all weight of my broken back. Once I was up Dally picked me up in a cradle and set me in bed. Laine pulled the covers up around me and put the medicine I had to take in front of me. I threw the three pills in my mouth. Two were for the pain of having a medal pole in my back and the last one was a sleeping pill that helped me fall asleep because I couldn't with my back.
"God John I thought you were dead"
Dally said with glassy eyes.
"Dall I swear to God if you cry I will smack you, I just can't believe you guys thought I was dead"
I said. He laughed and for once I realized Two Bit had shut his trap and was staring at me if he had just seen a ghost.
"Two shut your trap before you catch flies"
I said. He broke out of his trance and laughed. Steve came up to me.
"So what have they been doing for ya john?"
He asked. I sighed then prepared for the whole story.
"When you gush came to visit me after the rumble I started to pass out because the pain in my back had got worse and I passed out from to much pain so my body shut itself down so I wouldn't feel anything. I heard you guys walk out and then was when everything finally went black. When I woke up the Doc was waiting for me and told me that as I passed out they took me into emergency surgery and they put my spine back together in hope of some bone relate net then they put a metal pole in just for my support and because I had such bum parents and you guys have no money they did this all for free"
I said. Darry came up to me and hugged me.
"God kid you all had us so sad"
He said. I laughed and started to doze off.
"What's wrong?!"
I heard Dally immediately freak put to Laine.
"Don't worry his sleeping pills just kicked in he will see you guys in the morning"
I heard her say before I went into my dreams.
