After collecting myself, Claire and I explored the room, trying to figure out how to get to Sherry. Embarrassed by my outbreak, I stayed quiet, trying to focus on the task at hand.
The door we needed to go to was sealed shut. The only way to open it was with chess pieces, another weird lock system in this cursed city.
The cork-board on the wall held a riddle for the locks, Pretty sure the rook and knight are on the same wall, and the Bishop and Queen aren't next to each other. The Queen and rook were opposite each other, too.
"Well, that's enlightening," I said, sarcastically. Each circuit box had a plugin for the correct chess piece, the panel was supposed to have a picture of what part went where, but some asshole had torn it off.
Only two had pictures. The knight was in the wrong place, so I quickly fixed it while the rook was already placed correctly. The other two parts we had was a pawn and a bishop. The pawn was already placed successfully, leaving just the Bishop.
"The bishop and queen aren't next to each other..." I mumbled to myself, trying to figure out the puzzle. "You must go here then," I gathered, placing the Bishop in the circuit box closest to the vault door.
Now we just needed the Queen and King. Claire hissed in pain behind me, catching my attention. She was tightly gripping her leg, the white bandages already a dark crimson. "Maybe you should stay here while I look for the pieces," I suggested as she shook her head no.
"No, I'm alright, really," she said, waving me off, trying to walk past me but stumbling. I grabbed her before she could fall and forced her into the nearby office chair.
"No, your not. Your gonna bleed out if you don't take care of that leg." I said, letting her go as she gave up. Shrugging off my bag and giving her the first aid supplies, I waved my finger at her in a warning.
"Patch yourself up and stay here. Look after Sherry," I said, pulling out my gun and leaving the room as Claire patched up her leg.
Now in a large room with an elevated bridge. I pulled the lever, lowering the large deck and crossed over. "If I was a chess piece, where would I be..." I mumbled, looking exploring the large room. I found nothing, the only thing in the large room was a cable car, its tracks leading deeper into the sewers to god knows where.
Heading towards the door to get a look inside, a robot voice spoke out, scaring me half to death as I let out a squeal, jumping backward."ID wristband required for cable car entry."
"Oh shut up," I mumbled, kicking the door angrily. I left the large room and into a dark corridor. A burned body rested in the stairwell, a S.W.A.T. member from the looks of his outfit. In his grasp was a camcorder.
Wary of the corpse, I took the cam and turned it on, opening the side camera to see the screen. The screen A video was saved in its files, curious I opened it. The video started off with someone hiding in the vents. A man down below was packing something into his briefcase, unaware of his stalkers.
"Got eyes on the G-Virus," he stated, probably to his commanding officer. "We're going in," a deep voice ordered. The man shuffled around prepping for the fight, while a member of his team entered the room. He jumped down from the vents, landing in front of the scientist with his gun aimed.
The scientist yelled out, surprised from the attack, clutching his briefcase to his chest. "Doctor Birkin, you'll come along with us quietly," a man ordered, most likely the CO as Doctor Birkin stood up, hiding the case behind him.
"You think I didn't know you were coming? This is my life's work! I'm not handing over anything!" Doctor Birkin screamed defiantly. "We have our orders, Doctor Birkin. I'll ask you one more time," the Commanding officer ordered, his voice calm and stern.
