Hope you enjoy chapter 2!
The throbbing in my head slowly made me come too. I groaned in pain trying to recall what happened. My limbs protested as I sluggishly leaned upwards into a sitting position, my hands resting limply in my lap.
"Where am I?" I mumbled lifting my hand to rub my tired eyes. I flinched my head back as my hand met my right eyebrow. I touched it again but with more care, I had a long gash there. It felt like someone had stitched it.
An IV was in my right hand. Memories of the car accident flooded into my head. Oh right, the accident. I looked around the dark room to see if Jen was here but only saw a bouquet of flowers on the table next to the bed with a card. I picked it up and held it close so I could read it. Wake up soon! Was written on the little card, it was signed by Jen. Well she must be in better shape than me since she's not in here with me.
I pressed the help button that was near the bed so someone could tell me what exactly happened. After waiting awhile, I pressed it again until I realized the power was off. I scoffed at my stupidity, I must've really hit my head. Taking off the heart monitor thingy, I swung my sore legs over to the edge of the bed and using the IV stand for support stood up. I got a head rush from standing to quickly, making me stagger a bit but with the help of the stand, I kept myself from falling.
I realized I was wearing a hospital gown, the back part of it not doing a good job covering my bum. My backpack was resting at the foot of the bed. Shuffling over to it I crouched down and dug for my phone. I found it on the top resting on top of a pile of clothes, I took that out as well. Laying them on the bed I opened my phone and I saw tons of messages from Jen and my brother. I opened the ones from my brother first.
GI Joe: Jen called me telling my what happened! Are you alright! Call me as soon as you wake up.
GI Joe: Pls wake up Lara. You're driving me insane here. My CO gave me time off to go see you. My flight leaves Sunday morning. You better me awake when I get here.
I quickly checked the date, it was Tuesday September 29th. Holy Shit I've been asleep for 4 days! I checked the ones from Jen next.
Jen: They made me leave since visiting hours were over. Sorry I couldn't be there to see your lazy ass wake up. If you do....
Jen: I'll bring you some spare clothes tomorrow morning. If you do wake up, I'll tell you what happened.
Jen: So, your still asleep huh? Well since I couldn't tell you in person, it was a drunk driver. Ran right through the red light. Asshole gonna get it when your bro gets here. Oh, I forgot to tell you, he's flying down on Sunday.
I quickly hit reply to tell her I woke up. I took a quick picture of myself and sent it to her with a message.
Lara: Guess who lived!
I joked but the message failed to send. Groaning in annoyance I tried again but it still wouldn't send. I tried to call her instead, but all I got was a dial tone. "Stupid thing" I mumbled throwing the phone on the bed.
I quickly changed into the spare clothes Jen brought me, which consisted of a green tank top, a black zip up hoodie, leggings and my running shoes. I pulled out the empty IV wondering why the nurses never changed the bag. You would think they would be on top of something like that.
I checked the time on my phone before putting it into my hoodie pocket. It was 7:45 pm. It wasn't that late so there should still be some nurses shuffling about. I headed over for the door, shrugging on my backpack and pulled on the handle but it was locked. "Weird, why would they lock the door?" I wondered. Luckily, there was a dead bolt, so I wasn't stuck in the room.
