Shock Troopers

Chapter 2

(Zeta PoV)

"[WE NEED AN IMMEDIATE MED-EVAC, ZEUS, DRAGON AND THETA ARE DOWN. WE NEED MED-EVAC AND BACK UP.]" I shouted over the gun and plasma fire.

Zeus grabbed onto my hand, I felt something in it, "Re....Retreat. get the others to safety Zeta, You are in command now." He said, slowly standing up, throwing his helmet to the ground. I looked in my hand and noticed his Dog Tags. "[Os...Osiris, Retreat, Zeta is in command.]" Zeus said as he jumped onto the warthogs gauss cannon. The rest of Osiris got into the other Warthog. Dragon and Omega in the back, Theta in the passenger side and me driving.

"[It's been an honour serving with you sir.]" I said as we started driving off. "[Good luck Osiris, Zeus out.]" was the last Comm we ever got from Zeus. We heard multiple shots fire off. We linked up with the rest of the UNSC squads that retreated. We were making a last-ditch defence.

"[Omega, Get Dragon into the Medical tent. Theta jump on the gun.]" I ordered, "[Yes boss]" Theta said. I heard Omega jump off the back and pick dragon up. carrying him to the medical tent. We saw a scarab over the horizon, and it saw us. Luckily it was heavily damaged from our last fight, and as it was charging its beam it overloaded and killed itself.

The rest of the Banished charged us. And we held a line pretty well. Theta taking the brutes out quite easily, and I driving around ramming into the hordes. Occasionally shooting my Shotgun to take out one of the banished members. We are doing quite well when the Cavalry comes in. Purple, Alpha and the Spartans drop in along with some Scorpions. The base we were sent in to save had brought out a few Scorpions as well. We were finally winning again.

We managed to drive the Banished forces back and we were exfiltrated. But before the Exfil I went back towards Zeus's location. Me and Omega. We arrived at the location and saw his body there, he was dead. I picked his body up and grabbed his stuff. Driving him back towards the Bases location. He deserves a proper send off.

(Time Skip)

It had been a week since Zeus has died, we have a new rookie. He just moved in 2 days ago. We have been grieving so I've never actually bothered to get to know him yet, Dragon was still in the infirmary so our squad was on hold any way.

"Hey bro, you met the new guy yet?" Omega asked, "No sis, not yet. He's jumping into some shoes I want to stay empty for a bit more, at least till the funeral." I explained, "I understand. Although right now it will probably be better to get to know him, you are the squad commander now." She retorted, I sighed, we walked into the infirmary and I saw Dragon getting up.

"You released now?" I asked as I walked in, "Yeah, Doc says I can. I can get back to training with you guys." He said, "We've been on hold because you were injured. Got a new member I haven't met yet." I explained.

"Neither have I, you seen them Alice?" Dragon asked, "yeah I have David. He's been staying a different Dorm for a bit whilst we sort out Callum's stuff." She explained, "Might as well do that now." Theta said walking behind us. "You better now David?" he asked, "Yeah I'm fine Alex." Dragon retorted, we walked back to the Dorm and sorted Zeus's stuff out. passing his stuff around to whoever wanted it in the squad, Zeus didn't have that much. His weapons were placed in a locker labelled Zeus. Along with his gear. I was the one stood there locking it up when Cutter started speaking.

"I'm sorry for your loss Y/n." he said, "He was a great man, we didn't see eye to eye half the time but I know he always had the team's best interest. However this is war, we are going to lose good men. The combination is 3545 when you need to reuse his stuff." I said. Looking down at the Dog tags in my hand.

"Walk with me Y/n." Cutter said, I nodded and followed him, we walked over to the observational deck, Professor Anders stuff was still here. "Y/n, I know how you feel. Losing someone like that. This entire ship's crew is the only family I have left. So losing him hurt. But I believe Him promoting you means he trusts you to lead his team." He explained. "Have you met the new rookie?"
