"Cecil?"

"Yes, Carlos?"

"Have you ever considered what your future is going to be like?"

Cecil glanced up at his boyfriend, confusion flickering across his face at the strange and sudden inquiry.

"Well of course. The future is happening as we speak. As is the present and the past. Time is happening all around us, and I would assume that I'm thinking about all of-"

"No, I mean like, what you want to do with your life."

"What I want to do with my life? Carlos, I'm almost thirty years old. I work a steady job in the strangest town in the world with the man I love. What more could I ever want to accomplish?"

Carlos's face flushed softly at the radio host's words. His eyes darted off to the side, like they did when he was embarrassed.

"I dunno. Just wondering."

The conversation drifted off into an awkward silence, both men at a loss of words for entirely different reasons. They said nothing, watching the sun sink slowly behind the rolling sand dunes. Both were reminded of a similar night almost five years ago, sitting in this exact spot. They were much closer now, Carlos's arm wound tightly around Cecil's waist, allowing the radio host to rest against his chest. Their legs were intertwined.

Lights began to flicker far above a neon red sign, swirling patterns of purple and green, entire galaxies of sparkling gold.

"Cecil."

"Mhmm?"

"I need to tell you something." Carlos's voice trembled.

Cecil's heart, all warm and fuzzy with love, suddenly did a 180. He looked up again, horrified to find tears glimmering at the corners of the scientist's eyes.

"Y-Yes... Carlos?"

"I love you."

.........

"I love you more than life itself. Six years ago, I came to Night Vale hoping to stay for three weeks. I expected to do a little bit of research, gather a bit of data, and leave. What I didn't expect was to meet you, Cecil. I didn't expect to meet the love of my life. I wasn't planning on talking to you, dating you, falling in love with you Cecil. But God, am I so glad that I did."

Tears were gathering in Cecil's eyes now. Where was all this coming from. What was-?

"I never meant to get lost. Sweetheart, perfect Cecil, I never wanted to leave you, not for so long. Not ever again. I wanted to tell you this years ago, right when I got home, but it was still too early. It wasn't the right time. But it's our five year anniversary tonight, and I need to tell you now before it's too late."

Carlos slid off the hood of his car, turning to face a shocked looking Cecil.

"Cecil Palmer? Would you do me the honor of becoming my husband?"

He knelt on one knee, sliding a velvet box from his back pocket. Inside was a small silver band, inlaid with a shining purple gemstone. Tears streamed down his face as he held out his heart to the radio host. Offered him his undying love.

Cecil was speechless. His mouth hung open, his own tears threatening to spill over. "Carlos...

Perfectly imperfect Carlos...

Yes."

The scientist stood, knees trembling as he slid the ring onto Cecil's finger. Their lips met in a kiss, deep and passionate, full of tears and mumbled praise.
