A Lost Opportunity

"I wouldn't go that way
if I were you."

Someone once told me.

She commented on my path,
said I wouldn't live up to her standards.

And I thought she was right.

Her world was a maze.
An obstacle almost every direction I went.

So I took the easy way out.
I followed her,
blinded by the fear
of failure.

But now. . .
how I wish I had a challenge.
Her world was easy. Too easy.
So sweet, it was bitter.

I couldn't stay,
so I left.

I made the wrong decision
following her.

So I tried to right my wrongs.
Only to find
my right of choice
was taken away from me.

I screamed,
said it wasn't fair.

But my voice was drowned out
by the laughs of those surrounding me.
