Judging by the title alone, I'm sure you can guess what the big news is.
We are nearing the end of the story with just over a handful of chapters left and will lead in to the book that started this whole series; A Thousand Miles From Nowhere.

XXVII.The Moment I Got The Big NewsTwo days. That's when I leave for California to get my girl back.
It's been a week and a half since that night I refuse to think about and I decided to take the leap of faith in my relationship with Bex. I would've left sooner but I needed to get things ready, for one, I had to get a ring.
I spent the last few days looking online for the perfect one but couldn't find shit. Nothing was good enough for my girl. I nearly pulled my hair out when Mom finally suggested after I told her what I was doing, that I just wait on the ring until Bex and I returned.
Once I finally agreed, I bought the one-way plane ticket, figuring I'll buy the return trip for the both of us once we leave California.
"Nathan..." Mom sighs from the kitchen table as I pour my morning coffee.
"Yeah, Mama?" I ask as I bring the cup to my lips.
"Have you talked to Mike yet?"
"No why?" I raise a brow and set the cup on the counter next to me.
"Son, you know why. You were raised better than that and your daddy would be rolling in his grave if he learned you plan to ask a girl to marry you without getting the blessing of her father first," she stands from her chair and walks over to me. When she places her hand gently on my cheek, I know she's right.
"I know Mama, but Mike hates me and I doubt he'll give me his blessing. The last thing he wants for his daughter is for her to get married to the boy who broke her heart," I exasperate and turn towards the counter, gripping the edge of it tightly until my knuckles turn white.
"Baby, Mike—he doesn't hate you. Yes, he's upset about what happened but that was over a year ago. Things have changed and so have you. You're no longer that unsure boy anymore but a man who knows what he wants. You're finally doing the right thing for both of you," she smiles encouragingly and I smile back at her with unexplainable happiness in the bit of my stomach.
I can't believe I'm going to get her back.
Now, you might be thinking, how do you know you will? Oh trust me, I fucking will if it's the last thing I do.
I'm going to prove to Bex that I love her and will always love her and only her. She's my past, my present, and my future; all rolled into one.
"I'll go over there right now and talk to him," I smile down at her and she gives me a prideful smile.
"That's my boy," she gives me a kiss on the cheek and walks towards the living room.
I quickly finish my coffee and take a moment to collect all the things I need to say to the man who's going to be my future father-in-law. The man I've known more than half of my life and looked to as a father figure.
God, please let him give me his blessing to marry his daughter.
When I finally move from the counter and make my way to the front door, the doorbell rings.
I stop and wonder who it could be? I quickly open the door and the person I see standing on the front porch is the last person I ever expected to see.
