The white she-cat stared up at her human. Her fur stood on end as her human bent down and stared into her eyes. The human's eyes were filled with violence as it pointed its paw and shook it in the white cat's face. Then with its other paw, it grabbed a long object and raised it above the cat. She instinctively lowered herself as the human swiftly smacked her head.

The stinging blow burned like wildfire as she darted away from her human. She searched for the cat entrance as she heard the human stomping loudly toward her, the long object still in its paw. Instead, the she-cat searched for an open window. White fur flashed upwards and out the open window and into the grass. The human's dog came snarling around the corner, jaws wide and drooling.

"Help! Someone! Help!" The white she-cat screeched as she called for help in between hisses. She felt hot breath on her fur and liquid dripping on her pelt.

"Jump, backwards!" A strange cat yowled. The white she-cat obeyed and found herself sitting on the other side of the fence. "Well, well, Stream. Fancy seeing you here."

"How do you know my name?" The white she-cat challenged.

"Uhh--..... Let's just say that I've heard of you," The strange orange cat muttered.

Stream narrowed her eyes. "Who are you?" She growled.

"Why, I am a Shadow, Stream. Is-" the orange cat was cut off.

"A Shadow? Clearly not! Shadows aren't orange!" Stream scratched his muzzle lightly.

"I mean one of the Shadows from the forest not regular shadows," the cat retorted.

"I know what you're talking about beetle brain! But the Shadow cats aren't orange either. They're all black or dark grey! Every cat knows that!" Stream exclaimed.

The orange tom ducked his head in shame. "You're right... That's why they put me as the lowest rank and so... And so I left them. It's so unfair!" The cat declared.

"Well, thanks for your help. I think it's time for you to leave!" Stream only slightly felt bad for him. She stalked off in the opposite direction of her human's house. She never wanted to return to the abusive human and the hungry dog. Yet, she didn't know where she'd go. How aggressive were the Shadows?
