"Sarg!" Steve called through the house, turning every corner. The golden retriever never seemed to come on command; It was like a game of hide and seek. He scanned the living room, hoping to see the golden fur; Yet, nothing.
"Alright, Sarg. You gotta come out sometime. Tony's gonna be home any minute and you're not dressed to surprise him-" He rounded the corner into the main hallway, his eyes darting everywhere- Where the hell did this dog hide?
He had to admit, Steve basically did train him to hide well. In the army, Sargeant was a military pup- Born and raised to fight. When Steve finally was discharged, as was Sargeant- So, instead of adoption to a random family, Steve decided to take the dog in. It was the best choice in his life.
It took some getting used to by Tony and the new addition. Steve would be lying if he didn't say Tony was frustrated at all the dog hair- That's why the had maids, right? However, when Sarg's hair ended up on Tony's suits- That was a huge deal. Tony said it made him look 'improper' and 'indecent.'
But, deep down, Steve knew Tony had a huge heart that was big enough to fit 200 puppers.
"Come on, Sarg!" Steve groaned, checking the fifth room. "It's just a sweater! It's not like you're going to the vet or something-" Steve rubbed his temples out of frustration, sighing slightly to himself.
"If you come out, I'll give you a treat." He called, obviously his last strand of hope. What else was he supposed to do? Continue looking for the best hide and seek player?
The golden retriever finally barked, running out from behind Steve and through his legs, nearly tripping him. Steve smiled lightly as he knelt down. "There ya are. How you doin boy?" Steve scratched at his neck, earning barks and face kisses from the dog. Steve chuckled as he pulled something from his pocket.
"I know this might be uncomfortable for a minute, but bear with me, alright? Only for a few hours to surprise Tony." He carefully slid the sweater vest on the dog, pressing down all the hairs that threatened to poke out. Sargeant wiggled only for a moment before finding it comforting, to which he replied with a bark.
Steve heard the door open and Tony's sarcastic call, "Honey, I'm home~" Sarg barked once more, running out to greet Tony.
Tony saw Sargeant's outfit as he chuckled. "Well, look what you have on! Looks great on you, buddy. Truly. You could be a model." The dog barked in satisfaction before Steve appeared, wearing a jacket, which was uncommon.
"Hey," He smiled, giving Tony a kiss like usual. "How was work?" He hummed. Tony only shrugged. "That's not important- What is important is why you are wearing a hoodie and Sarg looks like a dog off a Hallmark movie." He joked.
"Well-" Steve took off his jacket, revealing he had a matching sweater with the dog. "Tada. AND-" With a simple pull, Steve pulled out another sweater that was exactly the same- Tony's.
Tony was in complete shock. Slowly, the surprisment turned into a small smile.
"You're a dork."
