Day XXIII: Waiting up for Santa (Children AU)

Another one? hhhh. I'm making this one kinda sad.

"Mommy, does Santa really exist?" Little Stevie quipped, staring up at his mother, Sarah. She flashed a bright smile, picking up Steve in her arms and walking over to the window. "I can't really answer that question, love." She hummed, her gaze falling to Steve. "It all depends on if you believe. But, Santa won't come if you're awake, so-" She carried him over to his bed, tucking him all nice and comfy. He wore a smile as he curled up beneath his blankets. Sarah kissed the top of his head, moving back afterwards. "No staying up. You have a busy day tomorrow." With that, she walked over to the doorway and turned. "I love you, Stevie." Steve mumbled a reply. "I love you too, mommy."

She left, cracking the door open as Steve shot up from his bed and ran to the window. He stared with wonder in his eyes. There, all night, he would stay to see Santa.

Tony sat in his dark room, in the far left corner from his door. His hands covered his ears from the arguing between his parents- The normal. He waited for them to stop before one came and made sure he was in bed. As the silence started, Tony bolted to his bed and sat up straight in it as Howard entered, exhaling a deep sigh.

"Well, at least one thing's right." He motioned to Tony. "Goodnight." He started to walk out before Tony interrupted him, his voice coming out suddenly. "Dad?" He questioned, making Howard turn and face him, raising an eyebrow. "Yes?"

"Is Santa real?"

Howard took no time to answer. "No." His voice was stern, and straight forward. "Everything in this world you have to work for. Now go to bed, Tony." He closed the door with a small slam as Tony jumped lightly. The arguing started again as Tony slid out his bed and made his way to his window. He stared out the window with sadness, and a small hope his father might be lying. He had to prove him wrong.

There, all night, he would stay to see Santa.
