"HELP!" DarkFlower was woken up by this urgent cry. Her ears perked and she glanced out the nursery entrance. Sticking her head out into the camp, she noticed LionSpark was getting up to do the same. The two queens looked out and saw a blue-grey tom with white paws and tip of his tail dashing through the clearing. His scent was not one of a clan cat, but perhaps a loner or rouge.
SpottedStar walked into the clearing and looked shocked in a way that he knew that cat. "Shark!" He yelled. "Why are you here? What's the matter?" His voice sounded angry yet worried at the same time. His ears flattened and his tail bushed when he saw that the loner running through the camp, Shark, was being chased by a large, angry fox!
DarkFlower gasped, flinching a paw backward into the nursery. SpottedStar summoned his deputy, SilverBreeze, to his side with a flick of his tail. "You know this cat?" the deputy said quickly, in the rush of all the cats in the clearing panicking. "Yes, yes. Now kill that fox or chase it away. I'll help too." "Can I help?" a voice among the crowd of cats said. A black tom named DewPaw stepped forward. He was SilverBreeze's apprentice, always eager to prove himself strong and skillful. SilverBreeze hesitated, glancing uneasily at SpottedStar. SpottedStar nodded, and DewPaw's blue eyes lit up. "Now GO!" SpottedStar yowled. The three cats leaped after the fox, which was now chasing the quick loner in circles. DarkFlower watched as SilverBreeze bit the fox's tail, SpottedStar clawed best he could at his eyes, ears and chest fur. DewPaw followed it around from behind, occasionally nervously batting at it with one paw. Any cat could tell the battle wasn't getting much of anywhere. The fox turned and bit down on DewPaw's ear, he let out a yowl of pain, stumbling backward. A large brown she-cat named WoodWhisker stepped forward, opening her mouth to say something. DarkFlower assumed she was asking to help, or just going to go help. However, she was stopped by a move no cat expected, it was like a split second before SpottedStar had the huge fox pinned down, panting. Shark had escaped into the crowd of watching cats, shivering in fear. The fox tried to make it's way back up to it's paws, and tried to bite SpottedStar repeatedly. Eventually the fox jumped up and bit his shoulder, SpottedStar leaped backward enough for the fox to shake fully free. DarkFlower gasped as the angry beast ran towards the nursery. LionSpark and DarkFlower looked uneasy, DarkFlower was deciding to run out or back in. LionSpark emerged from the den and ran out just as the fox was coming up to the opening, carrying her two kits. DarkFlower dashed back inside, to her kits. Her kits were mewing wildly, scared and confused. DarkFlower pushed the kits to the far corner of the nursery, standing in front of them as the fox made it's way inside. DarkFlower closed her eyes, hoping a warrior was on their way to fight it off, and fearing death. But soon, she heard a thump and a chocking cry. She opened her eyes only slightly, and saw Shark leaning over the fox's dying body. Blood was splattered in the nursery, on Shark's claws, and on a huge cut in the fox's throat. Shark panted, glancing up at DarkFlower. She was shocked the cat killed it so skillfully, seeming so jumpy earlier. "Are you and your kits okay?" He meowed, still panting. DarkFlower stood in shocked silence for a moment, before responding. "Yes, thanks to you." She watched as other cats began to look inside and step in the nursery. "Shark, you killed the fox?!" SpottedStar said, surprised. Shark looked slightly embarrassed. "I guess." he responded. "I couldn't let it harm those kits, they have futures ahead of them." DarkFlower looked up at him and smiled. "Thank you, Shark." She said, recovering from the shock of the moment.SpottedStar stepped into the nursery. "IceTail's here." he told DarkFlower. The black she-cat nodded acknowledgement, waiting for her mate to come through the mouth of the den. "I heard what happened two nights ago. None of the kits are hurt? You're sure?" he asked, worried. "Yes, yes." DarkFlower reassured him. "They're fine." IceTail relaxed, sitting down next to DarkFlower. "Thought of a name for that kit yet?" he asked. DarkFlower looked up at him, her yellow eyes shining with determination. "SharkKit."
