"SharkKit, wake up!" a voice growled. The white kit with dark grey splotches raised her head to see her older brother. "ShadeKit!" DarkFlower called. "It's not apprentice duties to wake up your sister every day!" She joked. ShadeKit was being made an apprentice later that day, and had to bug every cat in the clan about it. BadgerKit laughed, standing behind his brother. "We'll be much better apprentices than you!" HazelKit stood up and padded towards them. "ShadeKit, you aren't the only cat being made an apprentice today. We all are." SharkKit sighed, always relieved for her sister standing up for her. "Except SharkKit!" ShadeKit laughed. "She'll have to wait, sitting around with Moss balls and whining newborn kits, while we're being made the best warriors in the forest." DarkFlower shot him a warning glance, but he ignored it. "Especially me." He added. "ShadeKit, do you wish me to tell SpottedStar to get you made an apprentice much later?" DarkFlower scolded, narrowing her eyes at the troublemaking kit. "No, mother." ShadeKit mewed, lowering his head. DarkFlower turned to BadgerKit. "BadgerKit, are you going to tease your sister?" "N-no mother." He stuttered, scared of punishment. "Then go behave, both of you." DarkFlower mewed, licking her paw and sweeping it a few times over her ear. "Come on, let's go play." ShadeKit meowed to BadgerKit, padding out of the nursery opening. He shot an angry glance at SharkKit as he walked out, BadgerKit following him. SharkKit's ears flattened at her older brother's intimidating look. HazelKit padded close to her. "You'll be a great warrior one day." she mewed. SharkKit mewed thanks to her, hoping she was right. She had always been small, weak and jumpy, but kind and loyal. Was that enough to make a good warrior?
"HazelPaw, HazelPaw!" SharkKit squealed, jumping forward towards her sister, who was now an apprentice. The ceremonies being over, SpottedStar leaped down from the rock and across the clearing to the fresh-kill pile. ShadePaw walked around the group of kits and apprentices, bragging and arguing. SharkKit felt bad for the cats he was bothering, but was mostly just glad he was leaving her alone for now. DarkFlower licked ShadePaw, BadgerPaw, and HazelPaw's heads. "I'm proud of you." she mewed. "All of you." SharkKit, standing nearby, looked up at the huge trees covering the territory. "Woah!" she gasped, looking at the shining orange and red leaves of leaf-fall. She wasn't out in the clearing often, and it was quite a beautiful sight. DarkFlower walked up to her. "Aren't the trees pretty, little one?" she mewed. SharkKit looked at the opening of the thorn tunnel, which lead to the part of land just next to the thunderclan border. "When can we see IceTail again?" She whined. DarkFlower sighed, resting her black, fluffy tail around her kit. "Where is he?" SharkKit continued, lowering her voice. Her mother glanced at her and back to the opening again. "He's in riverclan, dear." SkarkKit could've sworn she'd had this conversation before, she probably did. "When's he coming to visit us?" She mewed. DarkFlower looked at her. "Soon." she said. "I'll be sure of it."
