People didn't know about us. Not only because we're both males. There were 14 years separating us. On top of that, I was his mentor. If people knew I would be perceived as an old pervert running after young boys.
It wasn't my biggest problem. Everyone in the world of doctors and nurses knew me. If they found out about Theo and me, everyone would think that he's trying to climb some ladder by sleeping with his mentor. No one would take him seriously.
Theo was a hard-working, smart guy. On top of that, he was talented.
Therefore, we hid our relationship. At first, we had a rule not to mess with each other at work. It lasted for a week. Now I regularly sneak him into my office so we can at least make out.
Alan knew since he was my friend. Theo told his best friend, Hanna. They knew each other since they were kids and Theo trusted her. I met her just once since she lived in a different city. She was the polar opposite of Theo. Loud and extroverted. I could see why he liked her.
We thought we'll keep living like that until we figure out something better.
That sunny Sunday we stood in front of a building where my apartment was. The city was loud and busy as always. Theo put his hat on. I fixed his hair. He kissed me on the cheek. I smiled contently.
-I love you.- I mouthed.
-I love you too.- he smiled.
We turned at the same moment and met Omar. He was one of the doctors in our hospital and probably the last person that should've seen us like that. Theo automatically let go of my hand.
Omar just walked away as if he didn't see anything. Theo and I looked at each other completely confused. I shrugged and took Theo's hand back. Fuck Omar!
I knew what he thought about gay community. We all sick, twisted people. I looked at Theo. There is nothing twisted about this. I love him. And he loves me.
With that mindset, I came to work the next day. Theo was already busy. I needed coffee first. We woke up late and didn't drink it at home.
I went to the staff room and made myself some coffee. A few seconds later, Omar walked in.
-What's up Carter?- he asked, too excited.
-Nothing much.-
-Drilling the boy I see.- he smirked.
I put my coffee down.
-Cut it out.-
There was no way I was going to let anyone think Theo was my sex toy.
-Sooner or later you're gonna open your eyes and realize he's using you.- he said.
-Okay.- I replied.
-You don't have to worry about me though. I'll keep my mouth shut. If you help a little bit.-
I looked at him. He wanted money to keep this a secret. Well, that was low.
-Are you aware that you're blackmailing me? This could end up bad for you.-
-No. It gonna end up bad for you.- he snorted.
I rolled my eyes.
-I know that it's hard to ruin your career. People would hire you even if you were a pedophile. But, that boy of yours...- he raised his eyebrow.
Of course, he's gonna fuck up Theo's life. He shouldn't have said that.
I closed the distance between us and grabbed him by his white coat. I slammed Omar into the wall. He yelped.
