Chapter 13: Anger
“Everyone, inside, now,” Enzo said to us. This new Enzo was different, not like the one moments ago from the shooting range. He was in a hurry and we didn’t want to get in the way so we just followed his orders. He didn’t even lock the cabin doors before leaving; we just got in the car and drove to nowhere.
I was at the back seat and I made sure that I sit there first before Devin does. I don’t want to make things awkward between me and Enzo, but nothing was awkward, there was just too much adrenaline going on. I looked at him; he was so focused on where he was going. He’s driving was breaking the speed limit but I didn’t feel the need to worry because it wasn’t as dangerous as the lives we were living in.
“Do you know where to go?” Devin asked. I also wanted to ask him the same question but I don’t have the courage to talk to him right now. I just stared outside once again, staring as the trees fade away into the distance.
“Yeah, No, I don’t know, I just-” Enzo mumbled. He was like a dog following a trail of smell. The fact that he didn’t know where to go startled me, but then again he found us with just a telephone call, so his tracking skills might be trustworthy.
“Can’t you just run there, you could just text us where you are.” Bryce tossing in some suggestions, up to that point, it made me think why was there a need for him to take us with him if he could just run, run with the speed of light.
“Do you want me to point out things which are so wrong with that sentence?” Enzo was starting to get sarcastic right now. I guess he’s angry, Bryce just went silent. He was embarrassed at what Enzo said to him and I wouldn’t let him get away with it.
“First, none of us have phones because they could easily be traceable. Second, I can’t risk another chance not saving her, the chances are, she is not alone, and I can’t face them alone and third.” Enzo wanted to continue but I can’t take it as he talk to my little brother that way.
“Don’t talk that way to my brother, he made a mistake, you don’t have to point things out at him.” I yapped at him. Obviously, there was nothing awkward in that, it felt great letting out some steam at him. I was still angry at him, still angry that he made a move at me. I’m angry and confused at the same time.
Enzo’s driving went faster, “Well if your brother was smart, he wouldn’t bring up such a topic.” Enzo replied back at me, the tension grew stronger, he’s comment made me angrier.
“That was a friendly suggestion, nothing more, you shouldn’t be a bully to others.” I said back at him. I was holding back some of my anger at him. He was still a Purple and for the sake of my mission, I’m trying to be friendlier.
“Hey,” Devin said, “enough, both of you stop fighting.” Devin stopped both of us. It’s a good thing he stepped in or else we could have jeopardized this whole thing.
“Enzo keep your focus on the road and Lavander stay put.” Devin kept his authority. It was starting to look like he’s the alpha male in here. I’ve instantly stayed put. Devin’s help kept the cool inside the car.
Enzo let out a deep sigh, “I’m sorry Bryce for what I’ve said, didn’t mean to get angry at you.” Enzo was very sincere this time. His slowed down and yet it was still fast.
“It’s okay.” Bryce said. Living with Bryce for as long as I had, he was like Devin. Bryce wasn’t really the ‘Hold a grudge’ type of guy, he’s more of a ‘Go with the flow’ guy. That’s one great thing about him.
Enzo looked at his rear view mirrors where he could see me, “I’m sorry too Lavander for letting my cool off.” Enzo wasn’t very sincere this time but I’d rather take it than having a very awkward ride of anger.
