Fitz's POV
"Sophie, hey!" I exclaimed as she walked into my room, she took her hand and tugged on her eyelashes. I let my smile falter as I noticed her nervous habit.
"What's wrong?" I stared her down and she blinked harshly and looked at her shoes.
"I have something to tell you, Fitz." She said quickly. I nodded and she fiddled with her thumbs.
"Well, I um," she hesitated.
"Fitz, I like you. More than a friend, more than a cognate, type of um way." She blurted those words so fast it took me a full minute to realize what she said. I stared at her with wide eyes, dumbfounded. She started tearing up the longer my silence lasted.
"You don't need me anyway, do you?" She mumbled as her beautiful face twisted with pain, thick tears cascading down her face.
"What, no no. Please don't cry Sophie." I reached my hand out to her, but she drew back.
"You like Linh, don't you?" Her lips quivered as her beautiful brown irises shut violently. Her face morphed with pain and she turned around and ran out of the room. My heart shattered like glass when that door slammed in my face.
With my mouth agape I stumbled back to my bed, but missed so I hit the floor with a thud.
"Why didn't I say anything, why, why, why!" I screamed at myself. My eyes closed and I felt this excruciating pain in my head. I clutched my head in my hands. With one final thought lingering in my mind, I realized what was happening. Guilt.
