Sophie's POV
I saw Fitz lying against Calla's panakes tree. He had his eyes closed and a soft smile on his lips. Is he awake? The wind ruffled both of our hair and made some pink petals fall. I was walking towards him very quietly, I was about 8 feet away until I stepped on a stick. A sharp crack broke the silence. Fitz opened his eyes at the snap. He looked around before his eyes landed on me.
"Sophie?" He questioned, messing with his hair in the process. He slowly stood up and took a few steps towards me.
"I thought you had 2 weeks left!" Fitz exclaimed grabbing my shoulders. He softened his grip quickly realizing his aggressive nature.
"I heal fast, I guess." I replied happily. I haven't seen anyone but Elwin, Grady, and Edaline. He took me into his arms in a big, tight hug. He gives the best hugs.
"You don't know how much I missed you!" Fitz muttered into my hair as I hugged him back.
"I missed you too, Fitz." I whispered as we quieted down. Fitz just rested his head in the crook of my neck and squeezed my sides tightly.
"You have no idea how worried I was! I thought about stopping my studies to visit you, but I knew you'd send me back home." He cried out quietly. I giggled and nodded.
"I know you'll pass Fitz, there's no reason to worry about me either." I sound like Alden now. Fitz chuckled sweetly.
"I'm glad your back Soph." He said. There's that nickname again... my heart started beating faster and heat began to rise to my face. Once we stopped hugging we sat next to each other by the panakes tree. Fitz brought out his book and I started reading over his shoulder.
When he noticed me he moved his arm slightly so I could read it better. There's so many things in here I don't understand. I mentally groaned at the thought. Fitz grabbed my hand to hold it, interrupting my thoughts. He rubbed the back of my hand with his thumb and started humming. I started to flush a warm oil color so I just leaned into his side. After a few minutes I could sense we were both tired. Fitz yawned and leaned into my shoulder once more.
His fluffy chocolate brown hair tickled my neck as he started drifting off to sleep. I held back a laugh at how quickly he passed out. I slowly and gently moved his head into the palm of my hand shifting his head to my lower thighs. I leaned fully against the tree and let Fitz relax next to the boom that I continued reading.I continued studying the book and it's concepts until I noticed Fitz sleeping somewhat restlessly on my lap. I started to gingerly play with his hair, which seemed to calm him down quickly. He seemed relaxed and wasn't waking up so I continued to rake my fingers through his delicate hair.
The sun started to set making the sky turn a beautiful mix of blues, purples, pinks, and orange. I say there watching the stars for a while before my eyelids felt heavy, like something was pushing them down. I didn't stop myself from falling asleep because I needed more anyway. I smiled as I closed my eyes and quickly fell asleep.Fitz's POV
I woke up to something slightly warm in my face. When I fully opened my eyes I saw Sophie's slender fingers draped across my face. I felt some fingers in my hair too. I guess she was playing with my hair and fell asleep while doing it. I blushed at the thought of it, but only a bit. Making sure I was quiet I removed her hand from my hair and set it on her lap in place of my head. I noticed the pitch black sky so I decided it was best to head inside.
"Sophie, you have to wake up." I gently shook her while whispering in her ear. Sophie opened her eyes slowly and I swore that I saw them shift shades. Were her eyes, blue? I must have imagined it... Sophie and I walked back hand in hand to Havenfield but the whole time I noticed her silence. One thing was for sure, I couldn't keep that image out of my head.
