Chapter 10 Hidden Within

This chapter is very special as it introduces the new enemy threatening our camp of about a thousand souls, unlike other stories, we have multible enemies including bandits, zombies, and these new, smarter infected who all seem to serve a higher purpose. Hope you enjoy this chapter and sorry about my slow update speed I have lots going on and hope you don't hate my story because of simple errors or bad character displays...................

It had been two weeks since I had joined thr military with a week of it being training. I had been training with firearms and I'm a much better shot because of it. My hand-to-hand combat skill is excellent as my instructers have said. My blood is also proven to be immune to the infection but can't be used to make others immune because of the infection is running full speed through my body. My physical strength has grown tremendously, an effect of my infected blood but Dr. Sein says I should be carefull about getting bitten even though I won't turn. Walked out of my house in my ghili suit and my silenced sniper rifle in hand. I took a deep breath of the clean air and deeply exhaled. "Good luck today superstar."Elexis said as she draped her arm over my shoulder. She was only wearing painties and a bra and her hair was all messy from the previous night. "I will be fine, just clean yourself up." I said before turning around and kissing her full on the lips. I turned back around and before I got away she she landed a hand on my ass. "Later superstar."Elexis said before walking back into the house. I made my way up to the base and as I arrived at the fence a guard opened it for me. He was a tall, African American man with a slight bit of black hair on top of his head. His face had hair apon it and he wore full body armor. "Hey Reeves do you know where Carter is?" I asked as I walked by. "He is in the vehicle warehouse with Don trying to get that APC Nate found working." Reeves replied while shutting the gate behind me. I walked up to the building and entered through the main entrance. From inside I could hear high pitched grinding and when I entered I saw Carter and Don, the camps head mechanic, looking at the inside of the engine of our new APC. I walked up behind them and put the strap of my rifle over my shoulder. "Carter, I'm here tell me when your ready go."I said to Carter with his back turned. "Ok Tas, go meet up with the rest of team one they are waiting for you in the mess hall and I will be along shortly."Carter said with his back still turned. I walked out of the warehouse and back to the gate again it was opened but no words were said. I made my way through the camp to the mess hall. I pushed open the doors and found the room full of people. I looked around and then I found Nate with the rest of my team in a booth in the corner of the room. My team consisted of seven people, three of which being me, Nate, and Carter who wasn't here yet. The other four were around my age and were classified as teen soldiers. I was one of the youngest of them all but I was the strongest. Nate sat on the right end of the booth with the others branching off to the right. Next to Nate was Cameron, a 17 year old, with short black hair and green eyes, he had a muscular build and wore the same clothes as the others, the type of military uniform I wore when I first joined. Next to him was Lisa, a  18 year old girl with long blonde hair tied in a pony tail and bright blue eyes, she had a slender build, like most girls these days. Then after her was Alex, he was 16 years old and had brown hair that barely reached his dark blue eyes, and like me he had a skinny build. Finally at the end was Gabe, a 16 year old with short brown hair and brown eyes, he had a average build and wore a brown leather coat over his uniform. I walked up to.the table and sat down next to Gabe all of their eyes falling on me. "Hey Tas, want to take me up on my offer yet?"Lisa asked me seductively. "No, I have a girl already Lisa." I answered her. "To bad then, you could have all of this any time want."Lisa replied as she gestured down her body. "Where's Carter at Tas?" Nate asked me. "He is with Don working on that APC." I answered . "Well he better get his ass down here I don't want to wait any longer than I have to." Nate replied before laying back. "You won't have to wait very long sergeant I'm already here." Carter said as he arrived at our table. "Go get your gear and meet me at the main gate." We all gave him a yes sir before leaving. I immediately went to the front gate and found a suv painted with shades of green to camoflage it. Carter stood smoking a cigarette next to the driver side door. When he saw me walking towards him he flung the cigarette on the ground and put it out with his shoe. I came near him spoke, "I want to ask, why make a team of soldiers consisting of children? Why didn't you choose grown men to make up our team?" "I chose the best and brightest, grown men can't adapt as well as you, they have reached their prime while you and your team, excluding Nate and myself, have much room for improvement. That's why we chose you guys."Carter answered. "Well lets hope they can keep up."I said before climbing into the suv. I waited for almost half an hour before the rest of my team was in the car. I sat in the front seat in turn having Nate sitting in back with the others. Nate wore the same type of uniform as the guards around the camp but without a helmet that would conseal his buzz cut orange hair. He was a 26 year old man with a large build and a bit of stubble on his face as he always did and his eyes shown a dark brown almost looking pure black. We drove up to the main gate and I saw Mason manning it. He politely opened the gate for us and we drove through. Over these two weeks the gate had been improved from just a sliding chain link fence to two large wooden doors put together by the men in camp. Don had also built a crank system of opening them so that it was easy to get in and out assuming someone was manning the wheel that controlled it at all times. We drove for miles and miles down a forest road until we reached a nice pavement road that led in two directions on the left it led into more forest area and to the right it led into Evansville. We went right and followed the road until we reached the edges of my old town. The road ahead sported several infected, I counted 11 but then I saw something on top of a building, a strange creature with hard looking gray spots of skin covering its body like armor. It had the same type of skin a jackal had underneath and its head had the gray skin covering it except for three spots where its eyes were and a mouth that split the gray skin. Its mouth opened wide and let out a high pitched shriek before running away off of the roof. "Whoa, what the fuck was that thing?"Gabe shouted in our ears. "What ever it is its not stupid and we aren't leaving till its dead." Carter said. "I think we should leave now, its a new mutation and we don't know how to fight it Carter, we might all die trying."Nate said frantically. "Wait here I will handle it." I ordered before jumping out of the car without my rifle. As I was running away I could hear the pleads of my teamates for me to come back but I didn't listen. I ran up to the building where the creature was before hand and I found my way up. A gutter vent with a dumpster below it, I jumped onto the dumpster and lunged up landing my hands on the gutter. I wore black leather gloves so I wouldn't cut my hands on things when climbing. I pulled myself up onto the roof of the building the roof itself being flat. I looked around for the creature and found nothing on the but then I looked over to a window of a taller building, about four stories tall, and there it was watching me. I ran across the roof and it bolted further into the what I could guess was a office building. I jumped from the roof of the building and into the window the creature entered through that was only a few feet sway from the roof. I landed inside and rolled with the impact. I quickly stood up and looked around and found I was in an office. I ran out the door and I looked down the right hall and saw the door the stairs swing closed. The hall was clear until that happened causing the infected in the rooms to stir. Little more than 15 infected stumbled out and found me. They started their slow limp towards me and I pulled out my family knife. I rushed forward and plunged the blade into the first infecteds head. Before I could pull it out another appproached but I grabbed its forehead and slammed it into the wall. I let go of the infecteds smashed head and yanked my knife out of the first ones head. The other infected were moving towards me in a mass so I pulled out my silenced 9mm out of its holster and fired seven rounds. I hit six of them in the head and one inthe middle of its chest. I pulled out my spear head knife and readied myself for the attack. Only five remained and I put them down without a seconds pause. I cleaned my blades off on the back of a dead body and put them away. I started walk to the stair case but I was stopped when I heard gunshots and shouts outside. I ran into a office with a view of outside to see my teamate in a gun  fight with some bandits that were hidden behind cars. "Shit."I said before planning my next move. I looked down out the window and saw a pile of bodies placed just right so that if I jumped out of the building I would have a safe enough fall. I took a chair from behind the desk in the room and threw it at the window. It shattered with pieces of glass falling to the ground below most likely getting me some un wanted attention. From behind me I heard a low growl and I spun around to see a infected dog with pieces of flesh torn off all over its body. I barked at me before lunging through the air but I moved before it could land on me to the side. It flew out the broken window and fell to the floor below. I heard a crack and prepared to jump out onto the pike of dead bodies below. As I moved out something rushed me from behind and sent us both falling out the window. The creature from before had its right hand on my chest and its left hand raised holding what looked like to be a sword made out of bone. Before it could strike with it I grabbed its hand and fought with it in mid air. I rolled around it just before we hit the ground and used the creature to break my fall. The gun fire around us stopped and I looked around to see everyone peeping their heads out to watch me. I turned my attention to the creature under me trying to get up and I pulled out my spearhead knife out and sent the blade towards the back of its head only to break the blade of my knife in half. This stirred the creature and in responce to my attack it flung me several feet away from it and stood up in lightning speed. A few of the bandits that had been shooting at my teamates now moved out from their cover and were making towards the creature with their guns drawn. I stood up and pulled out my 9mm then aimed it directy at its head, but before I could pull the trigger it looked at me and screeched then spun around with its bone sword in hand and launched towards the bandits. They opened fire on it but the bullets just bounced off its gray skin. It ran to the group of six men and stabbed the first bandit through the middle of his head. Then grabbed another and ripped his throat out with its teeth. The next it just grabbed both ofba bandits shoulders and ripped him clean in half. The next bandit tried to run but the creature stabbed him through the chest and into the ground. The bandit sat there squirming with the blade in his back before the creature place a foot on his head and squished it flat. The final bandit just stood there, obviously in shock, unmoving as the creature pulled its blade out of his old comrade. The creature slowly walked towards him while all the while he stood there still frozen with fear. The creature came close right up in the bandits face and blew its breath right into its face. The bandit dropped his gun and curled up in a ball on the ground protecting his face but it was no use the creature beant over and took a large chunk of meat from his side and we watched as he bleed to death on the ground. The creature turned around to me, I was on my feet with my 9mm in my right hand and my family knife in my left hand. Me and the creature started to walk towards each other and I aimed my gun at it and fired the eight remaining shots but each one bounced off. I threw my gun to the side and placed my knife in my right hand. We drew within arms reach of each other before stopping and staring into each others eyes. Its blood red eyes watched with anticipation of my next move and I did the same. The creature moved too quick for me to defend and sent its sword through my stomache and out my back making blood splatter out of my mouth. Then the creature opened its jaw wide as if it was going to take a bite out of me but I saw my chance and I took it stabbing the blade of my knife into the roof of its mouth. It went limp only for a moment before snapping back up and drowning its weapon deeper in my body. Then it happened, my right arm started to tingle then in a flash the creatures head split in two just before I blacked out.................
