"Ok get into position, they're almost here." Carter said from under a bush
We all sat quitely hidden while Mason and his dead companions sat around our campfire. We had proped up the bodies and made it look like they were sitting around the campfire. Mason had to be part of it because it would be suspicious if his men were there but he wasn't. I still didn't know either of the other two soldiers and Carter seemed to speak for them. I learned the white soldier's name was Ricky and the black soldier's was Jamie. They were both roughly around the same size as I could guess around my height. We were all hidden well but I was the one on top of the wreck watching from above. In the distance I saw a semi with a flat bed in tow and a quad cannon machine gun on the back. I just then realized if we can't take that gunner out fast we would get decimated. This was going to be a hard fight but was sure we were going to win. As it came to a stop I noticed something I hadn't noticed before about the driver, as he stepped out I'm sure the others noticed it to, he wore full riot gear. I aimed for the gunner only to find he was aimed in my general direction. The gunner didn't seem to know I was there it just seemed like he thought the chinook would take off again but that was near impossible with the condition it was in. The signal to fire would be Mason curling up on the ground to avoid the fight. A few moments later he did as he was supposed to and we all came from our hiding spots and opened fire. Carter and Jamie were sheltered behind a piece of metal that fell off the chinook during the crash. The driver was lit up the moment it started and now only the passanger and the gunner remained. I hadn't fired a single shot yet considering I only had a single clip of 15 rounds I waited till I could get a good shot at the gunner who was using the turret as cover from a spray of bullets. Then while three of our group was reloading he started turning the turret towards Carter's position. I finally had a good shot and when I lined the sight up with his head I fired four times hitting the bed of the semi twice and hiting him in the shoulder on my third shot and the head on my fourth. His head slumped down on the middle of the turret and blood started to pool out onto the turret and the bed of the semi. The passanger was also dead the countless bullet holes covering his side of the semi proving the fact. I jumped down from the chinook and my hands and feet braced me as I hit the ground. I saw the others coming out from their hiding spots walking towards the semi. I looked up to see a handgun aimed at my head and the man behind it I did not see at first but then I realized someone had to of been helping maintain the quad.
"Nobody move unless you want to see his brains blown out." The man said as he frantically looked around at my comrads.
Before he could react I pulled a steak knife from my belt and jammed the blade into the middle of his neck. He dropped the gun and clutched the knife and my right arm still in the same position from when I penetrated it beforehand. I ripped the blade out and he fell backwards blood spraying all over my face and chest. He lay on the ground for a few seconds holding his now torn open throat before his hands fell to the ground and the blood started to soak the ground beneath him. I looked over at Carter and he just watched me as if I was about to go crazy. I crouched down and wiped my knife off on the dead bandits back then grabbed his shirt and cleaned the blood off my face. By the time I was done the others were getting on the truck. Mason was busy piling up all of the bandits dead bodies. Carter started towards me and said,
"You know, even after these losses we still got something out of all of this. We got you Tas, a perfect soldier who fears nothing. We have needed someone like you for along time. This whole outbreak has weakened everyone's moral and sanity. But you seem to be completely sane with no depression or sadness like everyone else has. When were on the road tell me your story, what changed in you."
